Magazine Catch
Hey guys, calling on the infinite wisdom out there. I installed a NDZ mag catch on my Sport and 15-22. The one on my 15-22 ended up getting really tight afterwards. Anyone know why this is? I backed it out more and more until it was only being held on by like 2 threads. I took it out and made sure the spring seated right and there was nothing obstructing it, but it still seems a lot tighter than before I started. If I didn't do anything wrong and it's just a lot tighter than the Sport, can I just clip a few coils off the spring? It seems a bit excessive for the weight it's holding. And it's supposed to be recessed in about an 1/8" cuz the poly wider frame right?
Sidenote-Is the mag catch just tighter on the 15-22 from the wider lower? I'm assuming it uses the same spring but if I just didn't notice it was tighter I'm searching for a solution to no problem lol. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361388182.362548.jpg

I am not sure what you are describing, but I have put the oversize button on three 15-22s with no problem. All release with fingertip pressure while my hand is on the pistol grip. In all cases, the latch is slightly below the surface of the lower.
Perhaps you need to give the fellows at NDZ a call.

Well I put on the actual catch, opposite side of the button. It's the bar type device in the picture, on the Sport it says MOLON NABE or whatnot and the 15-22 it's the "trucker chicks". I pulled the button, spring, and detent and pulled the factory catch out the back side and pushed the NDZ one back in and threaded it back in opposite how I took it out. Even changed the two catches between the Sport and 15-22 just to see if it was that particular catch, but it was just on the 15-22 that it seemed to get firmer. I can still drop it out with my index finger as normal, it just seems harder. I had my girlfriend try and she has a hard time dropping the mag now. I'll try getting a hold of them and see what they say. Doesn't seem like a manufacturing issue at all, the two look identical except the engraving. I guess we'll see.

Sounds like the spring might be getting bound up somehow. Are you sure it's sitting straight and not overly "preloaded"?

Magazine Catch
That's my thought, but I took it out a few times now and can't see how it'd go in any different. It sits down in the hole it's designed to than push the release button in the hole on top of it and thread the catch in from the back. The Sport was a little different because after spinning the catch a few times to unthread it, I could put it back in place and it had pushed the actual button out far enough to clear the lower and I could twist the button until it came all the way off the threads. The 15-22 couldn't do it this way, I'm guessing because of the added thickness of the lower, so I had to push the button deep enough into the lower to just twist the catch all the way off. So putting it back on I did the same, put the spring in, button on top of it, pushed it into the lower far enough so the catch rod threads would reach the button, and threaded it in. I think I'll take it out once again and see if it's not seating right in there again. Maybe I'm just making the same mistake over and over again. Is the catch on yours recessed when it's seated properly? It's flush on the Sport, but I figured since it's the same part on a thicker lower it's supposed to be that way.

Ok, ya that's how mine's sitting. When you replaced yours were you able to spin off the button after a certain point or did you just spin the catch all the way? Mine was hard to get off because the button wouldn't push far enough into the lower to clear the bolt catch so I had to take that off too. The catch still hit the little mounts that the roll pin to hold the bolt catch goes into and scratched that up a bit. Kinda why I don't want to keep taking it out if I don't have to.

I used the bottom of a pen to push the button in as far as it would go so I could rotate the magazine catch out. It did rub the bolt catch slightly, but I managed to get it off without removing the paddle. When putting the new magazine catch on, along with my NDZ two-piece button, I pushed the button in as far as it would go, then rotated the new mag catch until it was on most of the way. Then I put the second part of the button on, and tested it, tightened the catch a few more turns so I could depress the button without it falling. I don't have any excess resistance on mine.

Funny, I used a pen too. Ya, just time to take it back out. Tomorrow tho, just finished a couple hours of polish work. Thanks for the help.

Yes, it's NDZ's SBR. I did not have to cut the spring, mine worked fine, but I went ahead and did it as a precaution. It was easy to do.
