Default Missing Bits

Not good. Seems these parts are missing...

I'll figure out exactly what parts are missing but can someone give some insight into HOW this could have happened?

Facts:
*Fired approx. 150 rounds of Federal Bulk and CCI prior to what I thought was an FTF or FTE.
*Did just empty a mag prior to loading a mag with 6 rounds in it.
*Fired one of the rounds, 2nd was what I thought was an FTF or and FTE.
*Had 1-2 FTE's earlier, but cleared ok and continued to fire.
*Only recoverable part was the black pin. Could not find any other parts on the ground (fell in grass I'm guessing)

Ideas appreciated. At a lose for what happened.

You are missing the extractor and the pin that holds it in place and the associated spring.

As to how. I don't know. That said ...

It's send to S&W time.

Whichever they tell you to do. Normally they want the whole firearm to make sure it functions properly.

These are the parts as they go into the bolt. Looks like you are missing the extractor and the spring.

If you know pretty much where this happened and have a strong magnet, you might get lucky. I have in the past on lost items. Even in the lawn. I have a good one on a rake handle.

When they originally were introduced to the market, this problem of shedding the extractors was almost commonplace, from how I remember it. When I got mine, it was after they effected some fix for the problem, from an engineering standpoint. I have put 16,200 rounds through mine without a hitch.

It is surprising then, that you have had this problem with a new rifle. Let us know what they do and say about it.

Start by filling out the Warranty Repair Shipping Form.

They will pay for shipping, both ways.

On forum page 19 under spare parts there is an exploded view ( no pun intended) of the bolt assembly with patr numbers.

Not everyone has the forum configured to display a page the same way.

Roger,

Yeah easy you put the spring in, then the plunger and then push the extractor straight back and it will "snap" into place.
