It should work, but simply drilling a small hole through the stock and inserting a pin or a 1/2" number 2 screw is cheaper. :D

Magpul has a new fixed stock that is made to fit on mil-spec buffer tubes. No drilling required.:D

I like the collapsible stock but I do wish it did not wiggle.

Magpul has a couple of stocks that use a friction lock feature which takes out all wiggle. When I use the friction lock on my CTR stock, the stock becomes rock solid. I love that stock!

Their STR stock is a storage capable version of the CTR.

Stay away from the Mako stocks, they make a "one size fits all" style. They look good, are quality material, but aren't finished well (plastic flashing everywhere, sharp corners and edges), the colors don't match even their own parts (like, at ALL), and frankly their service sucks.

The Mako's fit the larger size buffer tube fine, like stock, but to fit the smaller tubes they have a couple of tabs of the plastic stock that are molded bent in towards the tube to attempt to squeeze the tube and make a tight fit.

I really wish I had stayed Magpul.

I think we should start calling you MajorFrugal :D

My ACS-L has the friction lock, too. But I put it on my 15-T.

One member installed a piece of velcro on the receiver extension tube to remove all the slop the earlier Magpul stocks have. The sticky kind and I believe he installed the 'loop' portion, not the 'hook', but can't say for sure.

how about a military surplus m16 a1 stock--I fitted one to mine it cost a grand total of $5 and some poking around at the gun show--a rigid stock makes a lot of difference at the range--and it looks great too

MagPul CTR or STR ...

Or simply put a length of electrical tape along the top of the buffer extension.

I would have to find OD green electrical tape ; )
But really I don't think one strip would do it.

it doesn't take much tape. I put some blue painter's masking tape on mine. I don't remember already, but maybe only 1 1/2 revolutions around the tube... something like that.
I put the tape up to the level that the stock in the extended position still hides it. It took care of the little wobble it had.

I have the STR, and it is a nice stock. However, I find that I use it extended all of the time. So I am considering this one from Magpul...

STOCKS - MOE® Rifle Stock

I sent an email to Magpul asking if it will fit before ordering it. Hope they reply soon.

it says "NOTE: The MOE Rifle Stock is a direct replacement for an A1 or A2 fixed stock. Fitting to a carbine with a collapsible stock will require a rifle-length receiver extension tube, rifle buffer and spring (not included)."

of course you won't need the buffer or spring, but after reading it, i interpret that says it won't be a direct fit. Like others who have used an A1 or A2 fixed stock, you would probably have to do a mod to the "buffer tube" or stock to get it to work.

edit: this is the one that is a drop-in replacement if you would like a fixed stock. STOCKS - MOE® Fixed Carbine Stock ? Mil-Spec Model

It is designed for the standard length buffer tube of the M16/AR15, not the carbine length of the M4/15-22. That is detailed in the description of the stock on MagPul's web site.

"The Magpul MOE Rifle Stock is a drop-in replacement for AR15/M16 A1 and A2 rifle stocks utilizing the standard rifle-length receiver extension (buffer tube)."

I don't understand the problem, however. If you want the STR a fixed length, just extend it and pin the stock. Takes two minutes and costs under a dollar.

Notice that the A2 style buffer tube is round and has no place for the adjusting lock of the adjustable stock to go. Besides the length this would be an issue. Also, notice the A2 style stock has protrusion that would normally seat into the back of the receiver which would stop rotation of the stock. The MOE Rifle stock would take a bit of work for sure. The Fixed Carbine stock has the channel built in for the adjuster portion of the 15-22 buffer tube, and that will stop it from rotating. Length should also be taken into account with that model.
