Discusion of OFFICIAL (IN STOCK) 22LR AMMO THREAD
So instead of breaking the rules like so many, I wanted to post a few comments here and maybe guide price discussion here.
Can we all please stop posting overpriced ammo? Don't benefit the gougers by posting their products. .22 is becoming more and more plentiful in Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Walmart, ect.
Should the thread be shut down? It really is not needed anymore. And who is really benefitting from it? Those who need ammo know where to look. I think we are helping nobody but the those to lazy to go to gunbot or other search engines.

The thread is about AVAILABILITY, not price.
No, not everyone who needs ammo knows where to get it. Many new shooters come here and ask where they can find ammo because they can't find any locally.
If the thread bothers you all that much, don't read it. After all it's not taking up any space on your server.

Yes it is now showing up but the stuff I want only lasts a matter of minutes. And who is to determine what is overpriced... you? Depending on what car you drive or gun you shoot, I might consider them overpriced, but that would be just my opinion. Sometimes we just need to keep our opinions to ourselves.
The thread will shut down, like any other thread, when no one gains anything from it. It will happen all by itself.

I don't know, I think he has a point. Would you pay 50,000 for a new Hyundai? I'd go a step further and ban references to ammo availability from vendors who charge ridiculous amounts for shipping. I won't mention any names, but there is a certain store that charges $21.99 for a box of 500 rounds and then tacks on $16 in shipping. Who is that helping?

Helps the person that buys it. This ain't rocket science. Some folks have more money than sense... or more money than time. So what if they pay 20 cents a round? That is their business and still much, much cheaper than shooting .223.
We are all adults. If something costs too much for you... step aside. If it costs too much for anyone to purchase, the price will come down.
I have enough people and government getting into my personal life. I sure don't need "price police" trying to determine what should be posted or not. When I see something that I consider overpriced, I just say no thank you (well not in that thread, as that is not allowed). I would much rather say no thank you 100 times than have some arbitrary rules trying to control what is posted.

The prices of ammo have certainly gotten completely ridiculous over the past couple of years. It makes you wonder how many ammo and gun manufacturers are secretly voting democrat.
On a more serious note, if you go to almost any gun forum a common theme is to support your local gun shop. But what I have found in the last few years is that the local gun shops have been the ones sticking it to their customers in the way of ammo and gun prices and the chains have been the ones keeping prices reasonable.

Like said , don't look don't buy.
I do look & some of the prices have come down to about right if you don't add in the shipping. Who knows it could get to the point that it would be cheaper. I do love shooting my 15-22 but I will draw the line at 10 cent & by the way is what I just paid for CCI mini mags at the gun shop.
,
What I would like is for those that post links to ammo post the price also.
I do see that many do.

I think it is also appropriate to have a thread discussing the obvious price gouging going on as well.

Not sure if serious. ..
Anyway the thread has help me replace ammo that my friends have shot up. Whenever I can I get a private range and bring friends. For most its the first time they have ever shot a gun and I believe giving positive experiences and teaching proper firearm safety goes a long way.
Anyway the 15-22 is always the most popular especially with the ladies, so much so that i barely get to shoot. Not only is it badass but its easy for them to shoot and they aren't intimidated as much as full sized ARs. They blew through well over 1.5k and I never asked for a dime for ammo. So that thread was a life safer for me as I managed to replace all my 22 used at normal cost and then some for when I bring more to the range in December.
I don't have time to camp at walmart, I have a life. If the price is too high do what I do, hope you get lucky on the next one and score ammo at normal prices.

As far as "who is really benefiting from it", I'm sure there are hundreds who have found ammo who otherwise wouldn't have. Yes, many people know where to look. But not everyone has the time to keep an eye on all the online ammo sources. It takes much less time to check the thread. As fast as ammo sells out when it does show up as available, if you don't place an order within minutes, you won't get any. So the availability thread has no doubt benefited many. When it comes to prices, sure, some prices are ridiculous. But who's going to determine the cutoff point? You? Me? Phil? I'm sure Phil would love to price patrol all the links to make sure the ammo isn't overpriced. Jim said the thread will shut itself down, when no one finds it useful. Ordinarily, I'd agree. But in this case it won't shut itself down, either Lee or Phil will do it. They've already shown MUCH more patience than I would have with all the chit chat. And I thank them for that. Because I've managed to pick up a couple bricks of CCI thanks to this thread, and a few bricks of other brands that I've traded to a gentleman whose young daughter likes to shoot, but he can't find .22 ammo, and doesn't have the time to check all the online sources because he's working. If you know where to find all the ammo you need, great. But don't call those who can't find it "lazy". And just because you don't find the thread beneficial, doesn't mean it isn't benefiting others and should be locked. One of these days though, you'll be able to smile, when Phil or Lee finally runs out of patience with all the chit chat and the thread does get locked...permanently.

There are already existing threads on this subject. They died because they were stupid.
