Default Fake Suppressors / Shrouds

New to the Forum and M&P 15-22. Just purchased mine yesterday, and it also happens to be my very first gun. So I know next to nothing and looking for some help with Fake Suppressors.

Since I essentially do not know what I am doing, I was hoping you can correct some of the assumptions that I am making...

From reading this forum, I believe there is a difference between a fake suppressor and a shroud. A shroud covers some of the barrel, and a fake suppressor extends the barrel? Or maybe the term is used for both?

From looking at all the pictures of people's guns on this forum, it appears that most of the guns have shrouds that cover the entire barrel up to the quad rail.

The look I am trying to obtain is where you actually see some of the barrel before the start of the Suppressor. Similar to a sniper rifle I guess.

I am leaning towards this shroud. Its 4.5" and I believe it would expose some of the barrel, but not much.
All Black Ported Muzzle Brake Fake Silencer / Suppressor Style 4 1/2" Long - Kineti-Tech

If I were to go the route of buying some sort of Fake Suppressor that extends the barrel length, would that have any negative effect on the shooting of the gun? Considering that I have yet to shoot it, I am not "use" to anything. If they do not have any negative effect, is there a good place to shop for them? Most of the links I have seen on this forum, is for shrouds.

Welcome First not similar to sniper rifle. A "sniper" rifle is anything used by a sniper, it does not have a specific look. The muzzle brake you listed should work fine. It is possible that a suppressor or fake suppressor may affect the point of impact when you shoot. This is not a problem if they all go to the same spot, adjust sights/dot/scope to hit where you want. NOTE: You must be careful that the barrel is held tightly in a vise to prevent it from turning when you remove the factory flashider. Search the forum, there are many threads on how to do it correctly, if you do not feel comfortable doing it, take it to a COMPETENT gunsmith. Good Luck. Be Safe,

A shroud slips over the barrel, but its called a fake can too. The idea on a 1522 is to keep the barrel length the same, so the shroud/fake can slips over the barrel. Here is a 4.5" shroud that slips over the barrel but leaves some barrel exposed. On a pistol like the one you linked, that's a fake can that doesn't slip over the barrel so it is not a shroud.

I don't think you'll notice any accuracy difference. Maybe a slight POI shift.

Thanks for the advice about the vise, I actually found a video on Youtube that has a good explanation. I saw some threads where people warned about it breaking the gun.

Thank you, I actually thought it was a shroud.... I am not sure I mind the additional 4.5" in barrel length, so I think I might go with the one I linked.

You want a barrel shroud that doesn't cover the barrel? Do you mean a flash hider, that screws on to the end of the barrel?

The one you linked, if that's the style you want, will work. The threads 1/2 x 28 are correct and the depth of 5/8 is right. So you should be good to go.

Yeah 4.5 will work if u want a little bit of barrel showing. Mine is 5.5 and fits snug against my rail. So urs should leave an inch or so of the barrel showing between the shroud and the rail.

don't want to jack the thread but I have not found a barrel shroud that is designed for a threaded barrel. I looked on T22 and unless I'm reading it wrong they are all for non threaded barrels.

The OPS original links as well as ChatanoogaPhils link both have threaded barrel versions. Just search for them on the sites.

Mine was made for my AR which is threaded the same as my 15-22. So it works on both, but i keep it on the 15-22.

As for T22, check on page 2 of the link.

Like this?
A shroud covers (shrouds) the barrel, like an integral suppressor.
A fake suppressor sticks out in front of the muzzle just like a real suppressor.
I have shrouds for both threaded and non-threaded barrels for the 15-22 and other rifles. Some shrouds are called out for a certain model, others are sort of generic.
