Default What great fun...

A group of my friends and I shot the Palmyra Sportsmans Association Rimfire Challenge yesterday. Four stages of 50 falling steel targets ranging from 8 inch plates to 1 x 1.5 inch tombstones and everything in between. I've shot lots of steel with iron sight handguns, but this was the first time ever with a red dot or rifle. Heck, it was the first time I've used the 15-22 for anything except paper targets. Like the title says, great fun! After, one of the guys that lives near the range had us all over for a barbeque. Good shooting, good food, good friends... What a fantastic day!

A few links to videos of past matches to get an idea of the setups. Note that they ran a 60 second par time and a couple of the guys didn't finish. This year they bumped par time to 90 seconds, but I had no problem clearing all the stages in less than 60 seconds.

(Note to self... Red dots aren't magic. You still have to put the dot on the target and squeeze the trigger while it is on the white part.)

There were a lot of 15-22s there. I saw very few problems. Mine ran perfectly.

The results are out. I came 30th of 69 at 218.72. I'm reasonably pleased with that result.

The match winner in rifle was 120.05! Man he must have been something to watch!

I wish they had this kind of rimfire competition in my area. I think I could get used to that kind of fun!

That looks like a ton of fun! How often do they hold those? Daiseytown in Johnstown is supposed to be building a reactive course this spring, I can't wait.

Unfortunately, that event is only held once a year. They do leave a couple of the racks up year round for members to shoot. Nothing like the 50 piece sets you see in the vids, but it would still be a lot of fun. Unfortunately again, I'm 2 hours down toll roads from there. No membership in my future.

ETA: I can't believe no one has posted video of this years match...

That's great that you have a place to compete and shoot something beside paper.....reactive targets do a lot for the fun factor.

We have a Tactical .22 match not far from my home twice a month.....and until the other night I was always scheduled to work when the matches were being held. Fortunately I didn't gather too much rust over the last 10 months of not shooting the 15-22.

Here's a video to show you what our matches look like, it was shot last December. There are usually 4 stages, one stage you shoot 3 times. You will likely see other matches in the sidebar in case you want to see some of the other stages at different matches. In this match I'm shooting my newer 15-22 for the first time:

I'm going to have to get something like that going around Springfield, Oregon. Even if I have to sponsor it myself.

I'd bet the support for such a match would be pretty strong. The only problem is finding a club with the pit setups to support and room around the USPSA / IDPA / SASS schedule that such clubs usually have shooting every weekend. Go for it!

Looks like loads of fun! Wonder if there's something similar that's run in the area of the capital of the People's Republik (Denver)?
