True for the USGI M16 sling, too, from a prone or sitting position the sling provides superior lock-in. There's some argument apparently regarding if the sling helps with standing shots; some people seem to think that the tension of hte sling can pull the barrel out of line.

I got a sure-enough surplus USGI sling from the local milsurp store for mine. Works for me!
