Default My problems with the 15-22

My first problem is FTFire. I believe it to be ammo based but not completely sure. I can reload the round and it will fire the second time..

My second problem is FTFeed. Which I believe to me a magazine problem. The rounds seem to get stuck in the magazine and not properly(not sure how to word this) being raised enough to be fed in to the barrel (pictures below)

Also, the magazine it's self, when about half loaded, will come apart in the back and makes it fit snug in the mag well and won't release unless pulled out by hand. (Pictures below)

Pressed together.

That is definitely a faulty magazine. It should not have any give at the seams. If it is a new rifle contact S&W and they'll replace it. If you bought it used you can get new magazines for less than $20 at several places.

As for the feeding issue, when you load the magazines make sure you are using the thumb pull on the spring to relieve the spring tension as you insert each round. Then finish up with a quick tap of the back of the mag on a hard surface. Not too hard, just enough to properly align the stack.

The magazine may be the cause of all your problems. Definitely the problem with your feeding issues.

Is that a factory mag? If so, what version is it? I've seen some 10 round long (blue follower) that have been converted to 25 rounders that have your same issue, as one of the methods to convert them leaves the mag prone to splitting along the seam like that.

Either way, a new mag is going make it seem like a new rifle for you.

The top round should be sitting "nose high" in the magazine... definitely something not right there.

And as others have mentioned, the mag seams should be rock-solid.

I had this happen with a ProMag... It was the one that you could rent at the range prior to my purchasing my 15-22. When the magazine was loaded to capacity, the magazine began to separate and failed to feed on a few instances.

It's an ongoing thing with ProMags... with any weapon.

It's a brand new gun. Picked it up the day before Christmas. The mag is the stock one that came with it. Sometimes it's fine and sometimes it hangs up. I've contacted s&w and they suggested I send it in. So I'm just waiting on that. I just wanted some reassurance that it was a faulty mag rather than the gun. I also have another ordered from cabelas.

It's the factory 25rd mag.

hopefully a new mag will make everything right. It should definitely fix your FTFeed issue, and will hopefully solve the FTFire issue as well although like you suspect that could be an ammo issue. What ammo are you using?

As @UncaGunny posted the rounds should sit nose-high, like this...

And that seam should be completely gap-free...

Last message I received from s&w was on the 2nd. How long does it usually take for them to process and send the shipping label?

Also, new mag will be in tomorrow.
