My 500rd box has no lot stamp on the cover flap but inside the flap in ink is "1FE40M". I am guessing that is the lot number, right?

It's normally imprinted on the black exterior of the left side (opening towards you) flap, sometimes hard to see unless you have the right light.

Yes, I think that is an older box, before they started imprinting it on the flap. I have one of those also.

Older is better, because it means my box is good, thanks.

Has anyone received a refund from Winchester yet? I was told they would send me a check for retail value for one thousand rounds. I was wondering how much "retail value" is.

A buddy of mine had a thousand that was recalled. They offered him a check for $68. He finally talked them into just replacing the ammo.

They wouldn't replace mine because they cannot ship to NY. Face to face sales only. NY sucks!

They're supposed to be replacing 1,000 rounds for me (which I sent back) but I haven't seen nor heard anything from them since the initial phone call...

So let me get this straight... I have 2,000 rounds of the recalled
shells. Paid for and in my possession. They issue a recall because their process failed and could , at the least damage your firearm, at the very worst, kill you. Yet, If I return it, because I live in NY, they can't 'replace' it. It is not an actual 'sale' in to this god-forsaken state. Just an exchange for what is already here. Do I give them up or try to find a way to determine IF they are good or not?

And it just occurred to me... can of worms opening up...are there grounds here for a lawsuit either against Winchester or NYS. Any lawyers out there? I'm not looking for a cash sum just either ammo or publicity.
Are you kidding? It's just a box of .22LR. Geez...

Seriously? How can both of those statements go together?

What is publicity going to get you and why would a lawyers be involved in that? Why would you sue Winchester for a box of 22 ammo? Your only chance would be a class action lawsuit and good luck getting a lawyer to take the case on a contingency of getting 1/3 of the rounds in each box that Winchester will likely not be forced to send out.

I might understand your desire to sue if you had shot the ammo before the recall came out and been seriously injured. Otherwise, feel free to not sue a company who discovered a problem and is doing their best to let everyone know before it hurts them and then make it right with their customers, especially a company that makes guns or ammo that is likely already dealing with dozens of other frivolous lawsuits from anti-gun individuals and groups. Unless there's some proof that the state of New York would be just fine with Winchester mailing out big boxes of ammo to residents, there's no logical reason to think that Winchester would purposely screw over their paying customers if they had a choice.

OK, let me clarify... My frustration with the NY SAFE ammo laws is being compounded by this recall.

I do NOT intend to sue anyone. Especially Winchester. I completely respect the fact they have the business sense and care for the welfare of their customers, to make a recall such as this. My question(s) were merely a response to the fact that I was finally able to purchase some 22LR, reasonably, that they cannot replace because my state won't allow them to. My point was to, somehow, communicate the irony of this whole NYS mess.
After a number of phone calls, I find, replacement isn't going to happen.

Forgive my lack of clarity in that previous post. The stupidity of all this ****, in my state , had me on a rant. My sarcasm didn't help either...

Couldn't you have Winchester send the replacement ammo to a local FFL? It wouldn't be as convenient as having it shipped to your door, but at least you'd have it.

I guess I could check into this.

As far as the other posts about law suits against Winchester, NYS is the problem, not Winchester. And not really NYS, but the majority of voters in NYS. They are the real problem.

I understand your statement, after my rant but it is 2,000 rounds not a box of 100.

So my uncle, who reloads, said it might be worth a try to weigh the load and compare the weight to one from a good lot. He has quite the set of scales. Question is, if it's a 'double' load will there be a discernible difference from a proper load. It's not a 357...

Go ahead, tear me up for wasting my time or whatever but you never know until you try. Besides, he's retired and has the time. And he's persistent.

Keep us posted if you find out if there is a difference in weights on the affected ammo. Curious minds want to know.

There is enough variation in case weight to pretty much negate any such measurements.

No discernible difference in weight. As a matter of fact, weighing 10 'good' lot shells against 10 'bad' lot shells showed exact weight to the thousandth.

Winchester will ship replacement to an FFL dealer IF they pickup from the FFL. Same address...

They told me there was a personal injury case, that's why they were pulling them all. They were also very understanding about the availability shortage and my wanting them replaced not refunded. Those states that can have them shipped to you, you'll need to send a copy of your DL and answer a few questions, via email, before they will replace them.

That's all I know....

I called CS to ask about when I should expect to receive my replacement ammo. The lady I spoke to told me it would take at least a month.

Not particularly happy about it. I think they should find a way to replace it quicker than that...

I ended up having 1 box of the recalled ammo, just got around to calling them yesterday and UPS picked up today. The lady I spoke with said I should get the refund check in 2 weeks after they receive mine back. Said the check would be for "the going rate" that week...I wonder how they figure that? Just wait and see now, I guess.

I ended up having two 500 round boxes of recalled ammo. Getting it picked up was somewhat challenging given that I work for a not-so-gun-friendly company. As such I had to keep the ammo in my truck and run out and grab it when the UPS guy showed up.

I ended up accepting their default offer of a check. After they picked up my 1000 rounds of M-22 I went out and overpaid on some Mini-Mag's from GunBroker. I hated having to pay those outrageous prices but I'm happy that I was able to even find some CCI...

Does anyone know how many people this ammo hurt?

Just being me, I would have shot the ammo and never thought another thing about it.

Just think of the thousands of people that don't know about the recall and will shoot these bullets.
