Default SWS Brass Deflector is now available

Introducing the Simple Weapon Solutions M&P 15-22 Brass Deflector.

The 15-22 ejects the brass straight out to the right. If you are a left handed shooter, like me, the brass goes straight into your right arm. With the brass deflector most of the brass will drop straight down into a nice pile.

The brass deflector can also be useful to right handed shooters as it will keep the brass from bouncing off lane dividers and landing back onto you, or hitting shooters in the lanes next to you.

The brass deflector is designed to work with most optics that are mounted to the top rail above the ejection port. However with the wide variety of mounting solutions that are available, the brass deflector may not work with your setup.

The Brass Deflector is made from 6061 Aluminum and hard coat anodized black.

The Brass Deflector Kit comes with
  • 1 Picatinny Mount
  • 1 Shield
  • 1 Nylon Tip Set Screw
  • 2 Button Head Screws
  • 1 1/8 Hex L Key
  • 1 3/32 Hex L Key

CURRENT DESIGN IS DISCONTINUED

If you are having issues with the current design please email me at [email protected] so I may be able to contact everyone that is having problems once the new design is up and running.

Current design Brass Deflector Gen 1

Is it still possible to "open and show clear" during comps?

The button head screw closest to the ejection port can be swapped out with a Thumb Head screw to allow the Shield to swing open. I decided not include this option to keep costs down. Thumb head screws can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Looks pretty sweet. Might have to order one.

I think it would be nice to have while shooting outside. Have to pick up brass at local club and would keep the brass in a pretty uniform spot i would think.

Nice Job

Most of the brass will drop straight down, but if it is landing on a hard surface such as concrete, then it will bounce around a bit more. It might help with clean up, but I can't say for sure.

Thanks for the support. If anyone that orders the Brass Deflector does not like it, or it does not fill the roll that they need it to. Let me know and I will give you a full refund.

Hmm, I guess there would be a little trimming of the rail cover to make room for it. Looks factory, nice job.

Any way you could post some pictures from the front and back of the gun? I am concerned about how far it sticks out from the gun.

My ghetto deflector has been working just fine these last few months, but this is classier looking, so I just took the plunge.

FWIF, a towel laid on the bench or the ground beside you will stop 95 percent of the bounce, keeping the brass in one pile - most of the time.

Probably not much further than the brass deflector at the rear of the ejection port. The last two photos shows that pretty well, as do the first two.

My homemade version is that way. Certainly not enough to interfere with anything I have come across.

I'd buy that just because it looks cool! Forget the part about it deflecting stuff and being a left and what-not!

So this (Thunb Head Screw),would also be a good way to clear a stove-pipe or any other issues too?

Also....With a small/medium riser attached, how well "could" it work with a FS Sporting Rifle ?

Geez for $30 - you'd think it'd bag it for you too.

I'd like to see some side view pics also. Like how far it sticks out and if there is a bagging option.

Kidding aside. I'm interested in one. I can't tell by the photo if it extrudes out, sits in, or flush w/ the deflector. Could you post a photo from the top - looking down? Just out of curiosity, can you make it in an anodized blue?

My Brass Deflector sticks out around 1/4 beyond the uppers brass deflector. I will get some pictures up tomorrow morning.

It is unnecessary to remove the Shield to clear any jams such as a stove pipe. Just roll the rifle over a little and rack the charging handle.

I would not recommend using my Brass Deflector on an AR15. I have not tried it, but I can tell that there will not be enough clearance between the shield and the upper receiver for the larger shell to fully eject.

Looks very nice.

I've been using the rigged rail ladder deflector as well after the UTG bag style catcher caused more problems than it solved (thing just wouldn't stay open since it winds up hanging horizontally and pinching itself shut). It's been working pretty damn well so far, but I might have to order one of these anyway if you've still got some around next paycheck.

Any thoughts on potentially adding a vertically hanging removable bag as an option in the future?

Is the shield aluminum? I could probably just go MacGyver w/ one of your mounts, the bag I've got, and some brackets if I thought I'd have any luck tapping the shield piece to take a couple of thumb screws but I'm betting I'd just wind up screwing it up.

Original post has been updated with a top down picture, 3rd from the top, showing how far out the Brass Deflector is from the side of the rifle.

Forgot to mention the Shield and Picatinny Mount are made from 6061 Aluminum and hard coat anodized black.

I only have 3 left in stock. Once those are gone it will be 2-3 weeks before I have more in stock

It may be possible to rig up some kind of bag around the Shield. I may consider coming out with my own bag but that project would go into the back of the line behind the latches and charging handle and a few other things I am working on.

Thanks. It's something I can still use on my 15-22 and play with on it's larger brother.

Brass Deflectors are out of stock, I should have more in a couple of weeks. All orders are boxed up and ready to be dropped off at the post office. You should receive an email from stamps.com with a tracking number soon. Sometimes it take a day or 2 for their system to send out the email. Everyone should be receiving their orders by the end of next week.

I hope everyone likes the Brass Deflector, and I look forward to hearing your input about them. If you are not happy with it let me know and I will get you taken care of.

I really like this deflector but I think it might be a slight problem for lefties. Right now the casings eject over my right arm. This deflector seems like it would drop every casing right down on my arm. Quite a nuisance. But if it did have a casing bag catcher I could see the benefits of the deflector dropping casings into a bag between my right arm and the gun.

Thoughts?

Do you position your arm right up against the magazine? The brass will drop straight down from the ejection port, so unless your arm is right below it, you should be fine. If you grip your magazine well, then you might have an issue.

I do both. Sometimes grip the magazine, sometimes a forend grip.

Any lefty that grips the magazine would have the casings drop down on their wrist/forearm, but with a bag to catch the casings it would be easily resolved...I think.

Great work SWS! If I was a "Leftie" I wouldn't shoot my rifle without this!

Thoughts?

Any lefty that grips the magazine would have the casings drop down on their wrist/forearm, but with a bag to catch the casings it would be easily resolved...I think.
If you primarily use the magwell for a grip then this product is not going to work for you. I may look into making a brass catcher but that would be a ways down the road as I have several other projects I am working on right now.

I understand. You have the makings of a very nice product. Keep up the good work.

Mine shipped Monday, as well. We'll see if the letter carrier brings it today. It left the Connecticut sort center at 0200.

I love getting new toys as much as my grandchildren do.

I got mine today too, but it didn't have far to go.

It's a quality looking product, and your service was excellent.

Thank you SWS!

Got mine yesterday...installed it, and took it out and fired off a couple of mags (it was late, and I had to stop before it got dark), but it piled all my brass in a neat little pile on the towel I had on the bench!! GREAT JOB!!!
