Hi All,
I'm not sure how availability is for you guys in the various states across the water from us in the UK (seems from what I read on here it's difficult to get .22lr at times in the US).
We don't have that problem in the UK (our trade-off for not being able to buy much else pertaining to S&W here!), however, I thought I'd start a(nother) conversation on really good ammo (not just the cheapest / what's available).
I've pretty much tried everything subsonic through mine and, after a great afternoon at the range yesterday have come to the following conclusion:
For me, and IMHO, I am going to stick now with a RWS Semi-Auto solid round nose subs for the range and Winchester 40g subs for hunting. I've put around 1000 rounds each of both through my Smith and can honestly say I've had zero stoppages, Fail to Loads, FTF, stove pipes, anything - prior to that in testing (CCI mainly) was when I had all the above happen.
Another bonus is that they both fly at around 1065fps, not always a guarantee but again after yesterday I found that they zero in at 65 yards in exactly the same spot (which is great, as I hate having to dial in for different ammo).
I got some great groups yesterday and had a fantastic afternoon - all in the name of research! These aren't the cheapest but certainly aren't the most expensive either, although I'm not sure about RWS availability your side of the pond.
Anyway, hope this helps - this set-up is now proving to be very reliable but would like to hear others thoughts on anything I haven't tried.
Thanks for all the posts and threads guys - it's certainly made it easier for me to clean, look after, avoid issues and generally enjoy my 15-22!
