Default Another newbie question: "commercial or mil-spec"?

When buying add-ons for our toys (like a new stock, for example), should we be looking for "commercial" or "mil-spec" pieces and parts? Apparently there are differences, though I haven't the foggiest as to what those differences might be.

I hope our 15-22's aren't hybrids, with some new pieces and parts commercial and the others mil-spec.

MilSpec, MilSpec, MilSpec ... from the stocks, to the quad rails and hand guards, to the sights, to the Fire Control Group ...

The difference is commercial spec stocks have a slightly larger inside diameter. That can be made to work, but it is a totally unnecessary bother.
