Default charging handle

Looking to swap out the original charging handle. Can get the Plinker Tactical for $47, or Midway has the BCM Gunfighter on sale for $38. Plinker is ambi, BCM is not. BCM has three handle(latch) sizes.
Any experiences with either one?

I have the Plinker Tactical handle and I like it much more than stock (being a lefty and all

I did however look at Midway Usa for the BCM handle and noticed it was for AR-15's and not the M&P 15-22. I'm not sure that those will fit in our rifles.

AR-15 charging handles will NOT fit 15-22s for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is length.

The first PTs were junk, but they did a redesign and now have a decent product. Doomsday Industries makes a good one, as well.

I *KNOW* that charging handles for an AR 15 won't work in the M&P 15-22.

Those that DO work in the 15-22 include Plinker Tactical, NDZ and Doomsday.

I have the plinker tactical and i really like it I would like to try the South African one that Kaybak has, looks sweet and someone has just ordered a doomsday one, so will wait for review on that.
Re: the plinker, I have found that with the oversize latch which perfectly fits my finger, it is easy to 'find' and means you can access and use very quickly which helps when your ammo fudges during rapid fire comps.

At this time I am running with a Tacticool 22 handle with NDZ latch. Have tried the PT handle and latch also the PT Latch in the Tacticool handle as well as the supplied one.
I like the set up I am running now as it is a slightly larger latch in the alloy handle.
I have a doomsday en-route as I wanted
To try one of those.
Am looking at Raptor and Gunfighter for full size AR but am aware these won't fit the Smiths.
I also have finally managed to get a hold of an SWS latch but at this time I haven't tried it out just yet.

Rob.

I run the Doomsday on my 15-22 SBR build & love it. I ordered another last week for my other 15-22 but have yet to hear back from them.

The stock charging handle is fine & I'm sure would last a lifetime however when I run the gun with the flip to side 3X magnifier all the way back on the rail, I find I need the Doomsday. The stock handle is just too small then.

The Doomsday is as close as I have seen to the Raptor I run on my 300 Blackout.

Just to clarify my previous post about the PT handle, I bought one of the first production runs. The ambi-latch was fine, but the dimensions for the handle were way off and the handle was a very sloppy fit in all respects. Discussions with PT were rather rude and condescending. I removed the latch and put it on an NDZ handle and used this for almost two years and was very happy with the combination.

Earlier last year, I received a beta version of the Doomsday Industries handle and it has been on my 15-22 since.

The PT/NDZ combo is still on my bench and I will put it on my 11-year old grandson's rifle when warm weather hits and he starts shooting again.

Yep, and I just ordered two of them. Plinker has them listed for $46.99 on their site. I don't know what other dealers get for them, but this is a good price. The part numbers are the same, I checked to make sure. Two shipped for $36.64 with insurance which was a dollar extra.

Wow!

At that price, someone order one from buds and post it to me?

Would be worth having it in my spares box at that price even if I never used it.

Keith

You are right I don't neeeed another but, at that price, would be rude not to. Hehe

I also had notification of shipping today for Doomsday. :-) super stoked as have been wanting one for the last year. Not because I'm left handed because I'm not, but because, I like the lines and how it compares to the other Ambi Handles I have seen.

And of course because in the UK, they just not around, so would be a one off. Lol.

Well one of two anyways. Lol. Oh yeah two that I will have. Hehehe. For a little while at least.

Cant wait to see pics of it....you could do a full photo album with all the different combinations of kit you've got...go on make it! My Mrs has promised the next time she is Canon'ing pics of our little ones, she'll snap a few pics of the 15-22 then work her magic on chromakey for some really nice glamour shots

Well I must admit, the Doomsday is a very nice looking piece of equipment. If it performs as well as it looks it will be a great asset. However, is the manufacturer the only available source? Also, is it $60.00 ?

I've had one for a year or so & it performs great... very similar to my Raptor on my AR.

The market is rather small for a part that only works on a 15-22. Few people will get into such a market which makes costs go up on a quality part.

Just received my doomsday handle and noticed that it doesn't open up as much as the plinker tactical handle I'm using now. As a result it "digs" into the polymer nub. I think if I can file down a little more of the latch it would be perfect.

Should not have an issue like that, contact them and I am sure they will swap it out.

Thanks but it really wasn't that much of a problem to sand it down and polish it up real good. I suppose given the design you really can't expect it to pivot out as much as other ambi handles.

Pic of polished latch?

How much did you have to take off? Minor rub down or more of a slightly heavier rub off?

I tried taking a few photos but I've never been very good at photographing small, intricate details of objects.

IMG_5903.jpg
IMG_5912.jpg
IMG_5915.jpg

As you can see it really went to work on that nub so I really had to file down and smooth it over, but for now seems to be ok and no more rubbing on the nub.

Thanks for the pics T T.

I have had two emails over the past couple days.

One to say my 2 handles are en-route. ( Yay!!! ) been after one of these for 12 months.

Second from Eric at DDInd to say he is now all out but will have some more ready to go in March.

So pleased I got my confirmation email first LOL.

Looking forward to them arriving I can tell you.

Rob.

We will have our original charging handles and possibly 2 versions of truly ambi charging handles this Summer or maybe Fall.
Machine time is the bottleneck right now, plus licensing for the Raptor style. We do not want to get sued for patent infringement.

I have a Plinker Tactical one, it was the first upgrade on my 15-22. It was well worth it. I also use their mags as well. Very happy with their products.
