Loose Barrel.....Maybe????
The past few times I went to the range, my shots were all over the target, no grouping at all. Bought the wrench & the vise jaws, barrel not was not loose, got maybe 1/8 of a turn on it. Also checked the sights, not loose at all. Went to the range last week, shots were grouped nicely, dialed the sights right in, rifle is shooting as good as it ever will. Did not clean the rifle & the ammo is the same throughout this whole thing. Thoughts?????

When i suffered the same weird non grouping....i got the barrel nut tool....i popped it down and tightened it up....when i say that, i was actually quite disappointed because it didn't require 'tightening' except for a slight movement. I was expecting loose to be loose.
However, however slight that movement was, seemed to work wonders because lo and behold from 10 shots that couldn't even stay in the black when shooting from the bench, with my AFG resting on an upturned mag turned into these 10.

Who knows how the universe works.....it certainly does strange things...just embrace the fact that all is well.

Was that group using Ely sport?

Cheers Paul

Hey Paul,
Yeah that group was using Eley Sport, my 15-22 loves the stuff, I'm sure i could do better moving up to Eley Club or Edge, but the amount of ammo my 15-22 eats it would get very expensive very fast.
I got my T22 barrel wrench gear from Graeme at Smith & Wesson ?? ACP Shooting
He did me a very professional job customising a Magpul BAD lever and i got the stuff from him as well. Give him a call or Facebook message, see if he has any in stock. Assuming you are in the UK, if your in the US then check out the sale forum thingy on here.

1/8 of a turn is pretty loose... Yeah I'd say that was your problem... My wife's 15-22 had the same issue... Doesn't take much....
Oh, and nice shooting ghost mutt!

Hi I am in the UK Ghost mutt, And I cant believe I have never found that website before cheers.
I have just bought 1k Ely Sport to trial them up the club, I have been using CCI standard without any probs for everyday use & RWS semi auto for comps which work great and its very accurate but its £30.00 more per 1k than CCI standard.

Nice, what comps do you shoot?
It's pretty hard to get variety in my neck of the woods and CCI are like gold dust.
My Anschutz bolt, loves Eley Sport and has seen me climb to the higher end of the CNTSA & Yorkshire leagues i shoot in, so i always have that in my possession. I started using cheap Aguila in my 15-22...it hated it...FTF all the time, when they did go bang they went horribly off target, coupled with the 'loose' nut. I could not understand why i was shooting well with a bolt and horribly with my newly acquired 15-22. So i tightened the nut and changed to Eley sport....and now the only loose shot or nut is the one holding the rifle.
I hope the Eley Sport works in yours it is a very good 'cheap' ammo.

Hi
Hi Ghost mutt, yes because I was buying just to try them in all our club guns I only bought a thousand for £80.00 we were using Ely Practice before but that no longer seem to be available. It will get tried out in a variety of rifles, the target guys have given their approval so far. I am hoping that if we buy in bulk we can get a better price. The cci standard a have been getting for £59.00 per K.
As for the comps, we usually shoot at Bisley doing anything from gallery comps to speed steels & 2 gun minirifle/shotgun or down at Shield in Dorset. Cheers

Thanks for the info guys......thought I had lost my mind on that one, the barrel wasn't really what I would call "loose".
