First thing I'd do is check the barrel nut. I've heard of some new guns having it very loose. Before doing so please read up here on properly removing the flash hider, if so equipped. You can either make your own barrel nut tool or buy one. Once again, all this has been discussed in the past & can be found by searching.
That brings up the question, did they possibly remove the flash hider already? If done improperly, that can screw up everything.
Also might want to check the ejector. If you search here, you will find discussion & pics on how it should be positioned. This can get bent out of position during cleaning if not careful... especially if using a bore snake. I put a straw over mine during cleaning.
Otherwise send back to S&W & they will take care of you.

Sounds to me like an ejector issue.

The first thing to look at is if the magazine is being used as a steady rest or grip. Don't touch the mag.
The second thing would be if the ejector is in the proper location.
Post a pic of the ejector with an empty mag and the bolt locked back.

How old is the gun? If it's under warranty I would send it back. Give S&W a call before tearing into it.

My understanding is the gun is always under warranty... no matter who owns it. Someone else please confirm or correct. I know even when I cut my barrel down to 4.5" but wanted to go back to a long barrel, they told me to ship the gun back. I take from that it is pretty hard to void the warranty.
Also, IMO, looking at the ejector or removing the barrel nut is not considered tearing into the gun. All ARs, including pattern rifles such as the 15-22, are designed to be taken apart, down to the smallest pin. I have learned much about my ARs by stripping them down to add/change out parts. To me, that is a big part of the fun of having them.

Toss the Remington ammo and get some federal or CCI

Possibly the Ejector is bent slightly (easy to tweak or bend when cleaning with a Cleaning Rod (I only use a Patch Worm Cleaning Kit on My 15-22) There are You Tube Videos on straightening the ejector,S&W will surely take care of it as well.
