Default New M&P 15-22

The gun is essentially the same as the old 15-22 but with a new rail and mbus sights. Many have already been swapping out the rail using the tacticool adapter so it's a matter of preference.

What he said, I personally like the new handguard. Much thinner then older quad rail and just fits me better.

Another plus is the M-lok system eliminates the need for rails or just add the length of rail you need for picatinny accessories you already have on hand.

Think its a good upgrade from the 1st version.

No idea if the gen 2 sport hand guard is backwards compatible to the gen 1. (It probably is). I highly doubt Smith is selling these separately but I didn't call. Best option might be to wait awhile and see if a forum member has one.

This has been asked before, and discussed. For the forseeable future, your options are:
1) Purchase a complete sport rifle
2) Find someone who purchased a sport rifle and would rather have a quad rail and trade
3) Use the Tacticool barrel nut adaptor and put your own MLok rail on.

Part # and or source for New 15-22 Sport Handguard

Nowhere.
You have to change out the factory quad rail with an aluminum free float. We have everything you need including rails of course.
The new version is the same as the old except for the replacement of the terrible quad rail with the MUCH better M-LOK hand guard that looks, feels and works awesome. But it's still plastic.
