Fourth Year...
I just shot the Illinois State and Michigan State NSSF Rimfire Challenge Matches (Rockford IL, then Rockford, MI) and realized this is the start of my 4th year traveling and shooting NSSF Rimfire Challenge. Time flys.
I bought two 15-22s just for this as I had nothing suitable. I built two duplicate guns, one goes along as a back-up. They get "rotated" so both get shot. Functionally they've been about as perfect as it gets.
Aside from Geissele trigger groups all the functioning parts are original except one firing pin that broke and was replaced. I have 2 VQ extractors in my gear bag that haven't been installed. The originals are still functioning just fine. These are both "blue spring guns" that have the latest parts.
Trigger groups aside the only "tuning" was to run a stone over the rails to deburr them (they weren't polished) and the ejectors were adjusted. The bolt and rails are run dry. The trigger and hammer pins get a drop of synthetic ATF once a year when I install a new hammer spring as periodic maintenance. Nothing else aside from the usual before each match cleanings spinning a brush with a drill motor to keep the chambers clean.
Functioning is still just fine. No noticeable wear of the pin holes, I use Colt 901 trigger and hammer pins. Accuracy is actually better than when they were new.
I've haven't had an OOB bang.
I didn't formally keep track but these guns have shot a minimum of 20,000 rds each. 40,000 rds split between them over 3 yrs.
Seems like I'm getting my moneys worth.
Maybe it's a good thing a project appleseed instructor hasn't been near them...

This will be my 4 th yr also. I'll shoot the MS and AL state matches as well as the worlds. Possibly some others. Some state level steel challenges as well. My 15-22s have worked mostly fine. I did put VQ extractors n when started getting a few jams. Works great again. Tom are you coming to the AL State match again? Its in Phenix city, about 2 or 3 hours futher south.

Hi Tom,
I noticed that you spin a brush inside the chamber to clean it.
Is that the reason why you use a spinning brush to clean the chamber due to dirt built up?
Also, what brush are you using? Since i think i am also having a problem cleaning the chamber with just using a boresnake or a bronze brush. Can you show the brush too?
Thanks for your input.

I use a .243 rifle bore brush: http://www.brownells.com/gun-cleanin...1281-4616.aspx on a piece of cleaning rod chucked in a variable speed drill. The brushes are all brass (including the core) so you really can't do any harm.
You get a hard carbon deposit that forms in the chamber and slowly builds up. It's hard to get out. It's easy to just be polishing the surface of the build-up instead of actually getting it out.
The fashionable bore snake won't take it out. Your rifle just slowly develops ejection/extraction/chambering issues as the crud builds up. It's amazing what comes out of a chamber you thought was clean when you use the bigger brush (sized for the chamber not the bore) and drill motor routine.

Here's an update on my cleaning and range day report.
First, my problem is that i was having failure to fire around every 4 stages of shooting practical shooting matches (around 80 to 90rnds).
Since i was shooting an armscor ammo as it is a well known probably the most dirtiest ammo on earth 😁, i was ecpecting to be dirt that have caused the FTF. So, since then, i cleaned my barrel ang the bolt every 4 stages of shooting with a boresnake before i shoot the 5th stage of the match. But, still, i get the FTF.
CLEANING
My way of cleaning now did not exactly follow your steps by using a .224 brush in a drill motor.
Since i have only the .223 bronze brush and does not use a drill, i just cleaned by brushing off vack and forth in the chamber that cause the carbon build up to loosen.
Last week, it survived a 5 stages straight wihout any FTF. This weekend, will try to shoot 7 stages straight without cleaning and see how it goes. Clearly, for my experience, boresnake alone is not enough that could clean thoroughly esoecially the chamber.
The dirt build up on our chamber is a thing to look into when cleaning to avoid FTF due to dirt.
