What size muzzle device/flash hider?

Do I need to look for a .22lr specific muzzle device/flash hider? Or can I use any AR-15 device? (i.e. 556 size)

I saw a post where someone put a VG6 gamma on their 15-22 and that doesn't come in .22lr as far as I know... so I'm assuming he used a regular AR-15 size.

Some stuff can be cross referenced from a AR-15. Flash hider is standard 1/2 by 28 so most ar15 flash hiders will work on the 15-22.

I put a Troy Claymore on mine. Same 1/2 - 28 thread. 223 calibre. Works fine and can also be put across to my 223/556 if I want a swap around.

Any muzzle device with a matching thread will fit. Careful you don't end up paying more for it that the rifle though!!

If you are an idiot like myself, you can even buy a brake/compensator that is intended for .22 pistol threads and put that on, if you are willing to endure the stress of getting it to time correctly. I wouldn't suggest it though seeing the plethora of brakes available, you are only really limited to 1/2 x 28 and budget.

ANY 1/2-28 that you like.
Use a crush washer to avoid "timing" issues
.223, 5.56 and .22LR are the same diameter.
