My favorite .22lr is a dedicated AR15 with CMMG conversion.

For sentimental reasons, an old Ithaca Model 49 with which I first taught my kids to shoot.

My favorite? Who knows. I like clickety clacks. Savage model 87s and variants. Don't own one. Not going to either. But have shot several, have worked on a few, and I don't know, I like those junky things for some reason. Have 4 10-22's. Race guns, stuperstock, built up bench gun. None are really my favorites though.

Close to thirty years ago I bought a Marlin 995 semi. Its Marlin's magazine fed .22 semi action in a walnut Monte Carlo stock. Over the years it's acquired ghost ring sights and a DIP adjustable trigger. I've also replaced the factory plastic trigger guard with a steel DIP guard. It's my go to varmint .22 still my favorite semi .22.
Late in 2017 I bought a CZ455 American bolt action .22. Between work and cold weather I haven't had the chance to properly wring that one out yet- but so far it looks promising.

It may seem odd of me to post this in a 15-22 forum, but my favourite semi auto 22lr....is actually the 15-22.
In the interest of fairness I have shot, lots of 10/22s factory and tricked out. Pretty much all of the 22lr 'black' rifles (HK, Sig, Beretta, Remington, Anschutz) I have yet to have a go on the GSG german variants, stg 44 and mp40. They look like fun. But yeah......the 15-22. No comparison.

Ruger 10/22 International. The one I like the most was a limited edition for Walmart in 1997/8. Full black/gray laminated stock, flat rubber butt pad and a stainless barrel with matching receiver...

My Favorite(s)....
My first gun--given to me by my father--an early 70's Marlin Model 60 18 round "Squirrel".
And my recently acquired Marlin Model 50--circa 1935--right on the cusp of the changeover to the A1. Marlin's first semi-auto .22. A Christmas present to my son this year.

A tad under 0.75". Believe I can get real close with either the 10/22 or 15-22 at 25 "meters". Benched of course. Body's too beat up otherwise.

STG 44 weighs a TON, not fun to shoot, plus mine won't site in below 100Y without grinding

Remington 552 Speedmaster
My first firearm purchase, 55 yrs ago was a Speedmaster. Foolishly traded it away for a nice 28-2. Just received my first 2018 present, a nice 552 in original, non-BDL trim level, to replace that boo boo. These things run fast with that unique, lightweight bolt group that will handle .22 short. They're not the safest arm with no bolt latch and difficulty seeing rim of round in chamber, but they sure are fun for rapid plinking.

My favorite
I have two favorites. Top one is a 550-1 mfg year unknown. Was owned by my late father in law. And bottom one is a Marlin model 60 with Simmons scope that's great for plinking and zombie squirrel control.

I have my grandpas speedmaster and love it. So does my niece, she'll sit and plink with it all day

I just picked this up on Gun broker this week, Black Lightning from Mitchells Mauser's. It's made by rifles, Excel Arms, Manufacturer of innovative weapon systems Ontario, CA Home it's a 22WMR, very accurate at 25Y I haven't taken it out past that yet , Ran CCI poly tip with not failures.

Well, I only have one and it's my 15-22. Took it to the range today and at 100 yards with my Micro Red Dot and Mini-Mags it's deadly.
Now at 150 and beyond I need some work but 100 in we work well together.

(1) Thompson Center R-55 Classic - Probably the most under-rated and under-appreciated 22LR rifle. Accurate, decent looking, blued steel and walnut (not even the mags are plastic), great out of the box trigger, not too heavy - just an all around great gun.
(2) BuckMark Rifle - Too much fun for words. Small, light, handy, very good out of the box trigger (even better with VQ Hammer), just a hoot.
(3) Weatherby XXII - A classic. If it had a better trigger, it would rank higher for me because it has everything else going for it and you can't beat it for looks.

I really like my 10/22. Like a broken record. Mag fed. 25 round mags. It shoots. Very accurate. Can’t beat it. I always take it to the woods. Even if I’m going to shoot something else.

My favorite .22 semi-auto rifle is still the Ruger 10/22. I have three of them. A bull barreled target model, a 22” stainless rifle and and old 16” carbine that my dad bought me back in the mid ‘60s when they first came out. I also have my father in law’s Remington 552 Speedmaster and a Savage Model 6. All are very good shooters.

Back in the 50's I bought a Mossberg .22 Carbine. Folding front stock, military peep sight, 10 round magazine. Loved that little rifle. Used it hunting squirrels. Wish I still had it. I guess they stopped making them way back when. I've tried to locate another one but no luck. Were I to buy another it would be the Ruger 10/22. Never even held one but they are so popular for all of these years since they were manufactured..

Stevens model 87, belonged to my Great grandfather. I never saw it but it was said that my great uncle could shoot pennies out of the air with it. Maybe I'll dig it out of the safe and shoot it this weekend.

Favorite .22 LR rifles
I don't count any rifle that I don't own. It depends on the mood i'm in, as to the favorite for the time, and the use. Here are some that I own, have used, and are favorites. Thanks for sharing.

CMMG makes good stuff, I have a CMMG dedicated 22 only upper on one of my AR's. It's a fun gun, but my 10/22 has help multitudes of armadillos meet their maker.
Can works great on the AR too, but the 10/22 is quieter, and the Savage bolt is scary quite.

My Ruger 10-22 deluxe that Clark customized in 1997. Shoots like a dream with the 20 inch barrel. My old Marlin model 60 that i inherited in 1990 in just a fun gun, reliable, accurate and durable.

I also like my Browning .22 autoloader, the old breakdown version, partly for nostalgic reasons. It is a slick little gun, and really classy.

When I first posted this, I didn’t have a picture of my Ruger. It was in a safe down at my camp. I stopped down Saturday and brought it home for a cleanup and to do a little shooting. Here it is before I had a chance to really shine it up. Still, looks pretty good for its age. Can’t remember exactly, but I’ve had it at least 25 years. It is extremely accurate.
Best Regards, Les

For now it is the M&P 15-22 because with the adjustable stock it is perfect for a range of sizes in grandkids and adults. Easy to mount a scope or red dot, too, although the Magpul iron sights are better than most sporter rimfire rifle irons.
HOWEVER, I am working on some upgrades to my 10/22 to make it more accurate. May take several months to work through it a little at a time, but once it is fairly accurate then it may become MY favorite plinker/range rimfire.
And longer term, I suspect I will eventually get a Tikka T1x and based on my T3 experience I can't help but think the T1X will then become my favorite .22LR.
Nice to have choices, and I think the 15-22 is a real breakthrough rimfire for family shooting fun!

Winchester model 63 all time favorite semi auto.
the Rem 241...my granddad had one with Lyman Alaskan with Lee dot. he used to light matches stuck in the sand with it.
my favorite .22 [it's not semi auto] will always be the Remington 121 pump. i've got one in nearly new condition. my first one i got about 1948 for Christmas. stupidly traded it. the one i've got now will be in the safe when i cross that final divide.

Mine is Japanese.

Works like a charm.
Very accurate.
Very light weight.

Remington Model 550-1 from 1952. Shoots and cycles short, long and long rifle ammunition reliably. Using CCI CB shorts it is quieter than most pellet rifles.

Thompson Center Classic 22. I was sorry to see it discontinued and mad at myself for not buying more magazines for it. My Charter Arms AR-7 is second for sentimental reasons.

Right now, the 15-22. The 10/22 Takedown is nice but a bit non-user friendly when it comes to field striping for cleaning.

Mine is a Marlin M99 M1 that I have had over 30 years now. I used to be able to shoot clays with it.
Most treasured is my 10-22 that my father bought me 38yrs ago for my 16th birthday

It's a toss up between my original Ruger 10/22 that I bought in 1973 or my Remington Nylon Apache (can I say that anymore)

I have a Chinese copy of the Browning take down rifle. I wish it was a real Browning, but still love the design. When I had the barrel threaded for a can the same company did something to the bore which made this little rifle a serious tack-driver. Another clever, handy, and timeless design from Mr. Browning, even if it was made in the East.
