What's your favorite semi-auto .22 rifle ?
Out of all the .22 semi-auto rifles out there , what is your favorite.
My best shooter is a CZ 512, my best play gun is the S&W 15-22, I like the vintage Remington Nylon 66 and 77, I just picked up a Mauser Black Lightning for something different. I have a Mitchel Arms AK22 which is an accurate iron sight gun, super simple and reliable .

Fun at the range the Smith 15-22 is a hoot to shoot
Walking in Penns Woods...... one of my Ruger 10/22 Internationals/mannlichers..... now that we can hunt with semi's in Pa.
A CZ 512 peaks my interest in .22mag.. wish there were 25 rd mags available ....... I've got several CZ rimfire bolt guns and they are all shooting in the minute of angle..... .22lr at 50-75yds the .22mag out to 100 and beyond.

That's a easy one to answer. My Browning .22 take down, Belgium manufactured in the early 1960s. I saved up a bunch of money I made snow shoveling and bought that beauty when I was age 16.
A much simpler time, my father a years or so before gave the dealer permission to let me do my own thing. The gun cost about $55 MSRP at the time and the dealer gave it to me for $52 and threw in a 50 box of shells.
Yes I still have it and it sits front and center in my safe.

What's your favorite semi-auto .22 rifle ?
The Browning SA-22. I've been in love with this rifle since the first time I ever saw one in a Sears store some time in the early sixties. Mine is made by Miroku, but I'm perfectly happy with the quality.
Some members had stated that there weren't enough posts with photos in them, so I took a photo of my SA-22 in the house, in the dark. Sorry for the poor quality. I guess something is better than nothing.

Had 2 Ruger 10/22s and liked em but would not trade my American Compact in 22 magnum. I am a fan of the shorter barrels and this one fits the bill. Those stock modules are a great idea.

I’ve got a stainless 10-22 that just works. Accurate, reliable, and cheap. Actually put together by a retired part time gunsmith who helps out at the local gun shop. “ Ahhh,it was just left over stuff I scrapped together”

By far the most fun for the money.... Ruger 10/22, Tactical Solutions barrel, reworked trigger, Pilot suppressor and custom stock. Shoot all day for $5.00.
Three shot groups inside a dime all day long at 25 yards.

Original Armalite AR-7 Explorer. Not the most accurate, but not bad either. Have a couple spare mags for it and it’s a great plinker. Love the retro “camo” plastic stock.

Another vote for the Win 63. Have had one for years. One I've
had for over 50yrs that was mint condition when I got it is still
ticking. No function problems and accurate. I have had several
others over the years and they were all top quality. When I was
a kid I wanted a Browning. They are fine 22s also, but decided
I didn't want one when 1st one I shot threw hot brass down my
9yr old sleeve. Later on I owned a couple of them and they would
be my second choice. The Win 74 & Rem 550 were good guns
for the money but didn't compare to the older milled guns. Rem
had some good Pre WW2 guns on Browning patents that were
also well made. The last good semi 22 was the Ruger 10/22
until they started cheapening it. Now there is no US made semi
that I would buy.

Which ever one I happen to have in my hands at the time.
I can't beat my Clark Custom 10-22 for accuracy. Killed a bazillion ground squirrels and prairie dogs with it. The 1522, as everyone here knows, is just plain fun; mine also has served as my go to night time varmint killer.

I prefer me classic Winchester Model 74 in 22LR. It's been very reliable and is accurate as well. Perhaps this is why the OSS used this model suppressed as a assassination gun.

I like my Browning SA-22, one of John Moses last designs. But I carry and use my Remington 241. Just something about it makes it preferable to the Browning even though they are very similar rifles.

I only have one semi auto .22 and it is a Ruger 10/22 that I gave my Dad for Christmas back in 1986 or 87, it came back to me when he sold the farm and moved to Florida. He is gone now, but I will always have that Ruger.

I have a Ruger 10-22 receiver and bolt with a custom SS bull barrel and trigger group in one of the last Fajen laminated stocks. A typical 100 yard group on a calm day is 1 bullet hole wide X 3/4" high. The shots string vertically because of velocity difference between bullets.
I consistently get my best groups with CCI Blazer ammo from the mid-1990's. I'm down to my last 15 bricks, 4 bricks plus an unopened case.
EDIT: I just ordered a 110 round drum magazine. Now I can shoot up that "junk" 22 LR ammo I'm stuck with from the shortage days.

15-22 is the most fun. I have two. My others are a Winchester 77 which was a gift from my Dad and a Marlin 60. I would never part with the Winchester - except to my son one day, but the Marlin (post Rem.) is pretty much junk. The 77 isn't a great rifle, either, but it has sentimental value. Dad won it in a sales contest in 1960 - the year I was born.

Remington Nylon 66, hands down. Lightweight, accurate, 14 rounds on demand, absolutely dependable in all conditions of weather and environment. Gone but not forgotten, as current prices on the used gun market will absolutely verify. You can mistreat it, fail to clean it, and in spite of the fact that it needs no lubrication, it goes bang every time. My first one was abandoned and full of sand - sprayed the grit out with WD-40, and it still serves me perfectly when called upon. Absolutely amazing engineering miracle! Thank you, Wayne Leek!

I'm astounded why anyone would pick a Nylon 22 out of all the
Semis that have been made. I can see it being a favorite due to
sentimental reasons or the survival aspect of one. It was hi tech
at the time with Nylon stock. I have had a lot of them over the
years they were good plinkers and I think a shooter set worlds
record with one. I have never broken one or had any function
trouble with one myself. I have seen quite a few with broken
stocks. These have one thing in common, they broke in cold
weather and they all broke the same place in rear portion of
bolt rails.

A plebeian Winchester Model 190 like the one I had when I was a kid lives around here as does a low-numbered 1st or 2nd year production Ruger 10/22, which is a bit nicer and dressier than current production. Has a rather nice, dense and heavy piece of black walnut for a stock and the barrel band and butt plate aren't made of plastic.
I'd still rather have one of those Winchester Model 63s mentioned earlier.

For Semi-autos, my favorite is my Weatherby MkXXII. It is spectacular looking, and the most accurate semi I have ever had. For all around fun and lying in the back of the trunk and any lousy weather I choose my Ruger 10-22, also very accurate and very rugged/dependable.

My Kidd 10-22 16" ultra light barrel in a Kidd receiver and Kidd bolt with a Kidd Match trigger. Sits in a Hogue stock and it's always very accurate.

I've never owned or shot a .22 semi-automatic rifle other than my 10/22 and 15-22. I bet some of those high end ones are great. Of my two, the 15-22 wins hands down though I feel like I'm dissing my old friend, the 10/22.

Favorite .22 semi auto rifles
Without question my Winchester 63's are my favorite. For me they have a very natural point. Very close behind is my Remington Model 34.

The little Browning 22 takedown is my favorite.
Just the right size for a 22, works all the time and is very well made.
I gave a circa 1935 Browning 22 to my granddaughter this summer as her first repeating rifle.

PRACTICALY SPEAKING...
I've gotten along fine with a few real accurate 22lr handguns & a Win 22MXTR & a Ruger 7722 bolt 22mag. Sure the win 94, Ruger takedown 10-22, S&W 15-22 are fun, but kind of a phase. I kinda like old stuff & about anything Belgian Browning.

Semi-auto is tough I'm mainly a bolt guy.
This fits your criteria being 22 mag.
An H&R model 700 deluxe.

I suppose that my Ruger 10/22 early version with the walnut stock with cut checkering...wearing a Leupold 1x4 scope has to be the most useful and accurate .22 that I have. It will literally shoot cloverleafs at 50 yards, depending somewhat on the ammo.
I also like my Browning .22 autoloader, the old breakdown version, partly for nostalgic reasons. It is a slick little gun, and really classy.
Best Regards, Les

Only have one semi auto 22 rifle, a Winchester model-490. My most desired would be a Winchester model-63.

Beautiful rifle Danwin. I recall seeing em when they came out. Looks like a real well made gun from the past!
