Looking to put something on my M&P 15-22, but would like to spend inder $150 since I mostly shoot indoor at 25 yards, and only for fun. It has the factory sights on it.

I was looking at this:

4X 32 Compact Tactical Scope with 3 Color (Red Green or Blue) Range Finder Sight (Mil-Dot or MOA Options) and Naturally Illuminated Fiber Optic Iron Sight

For 25 yards you're going to want a AO scope, or red dot, or you'll have some parallax problems.

For my airguns and rimfire rifles that are just range guns and don't see much abuse I've been using Pinty optics from Amazon. For their AO options I have adjusted the things down to 10 yards, and they have a reasonable eye box at most magnifications.

They clearly are not the best out there, but for under $70 they get the job done, and the one I temporarily had on my 5.56 AR survived and actually worked better under 50 yards than the much more expensive final solution that's on it now.

Can they be used with the open sights already on it? Was wondering about something with high mount rings - if that would mess up trying to sight it in.

If you want to co-witness through an optic you would need to use something that is 1x magnification, typically a red dot setup.

Figured that. Thanks!

A friend told me I should get a 2.5 scope - don't need any bells and whistles.

I have the model with the red/green dot on it that Smith sells. No complaints so far but I’m considering a 1x3 or 1x4 scope. I don’t shoot long distance and think it would have quick acquisition for closer targets and reach out ok to 50 feet for more precise shots. The size is fairly small and the price isn’t to bad. Several companies like Vortex and Burris make them.

I have a Ruger 10/22 that I put a Sig Romeo5 on and really like it. It’s small and clarity is excellent as well as the price was around $125 from Amazon.

Do a Google search on "scope parallax problem" to get an understanding the problems of using a fixed objective scope at 25 yards, and why an adjustable objective (AO) is a feature you really want to spend a little extra for and have. It's more than just magnification that you need to consider at different ranges.

Tried to understand that - think I do. Sort of....

I ordered the above link. Hope it is okay. I have a different Osprey scope on my M&P 15, and I LOVE it!

I have a Sight Mark 1-4x24 AR-223 on a Burris PEPR QD mount. It works really well with the rifle and means I can switch a nightvision scope when needed.
