Default scope questions

ive got a mossberg 308 and ive purchased a nice wulf scope.

WULF Hurricane 6.5-25x50 SFP Illuminated Half Mildot 0.1MRAD Side Focus Locking Turrets Rifle Scope

i was so impressed with it that i purchased another scope for my m&p.

WULF Fireball 4-12x50 SFP Non-Illuminated Half Mil-Dot Rifle Scope

i puchased a set of high mounts but the objective lens is touching the front sights. to overcome this ive bought some adapters to hopefully give me some clearance. i dont want to remove the stock sights if i can help it.

my question is can you mount a scope too high? only use my rifle for target shooting.

I doubt mounting the scope higher would cause any mechanical problems. You would have to account for it in determining trajectories and you may need to worry about your cheek weld to align your eye with the scope.

I'm not understanding how your scope is hitting your S&W MP-15 front sites?

I’ve got folding sights on my rifle. They pop up when you hit a button on the side. With the sights folded down, the objective lens doesn’t clear the front sights hence why I need to raise it up a bit more.

Raising the scope is obviously possible, but by chance could you move the front site further forward?

Can we see a picture of the rifle? Not being familiar with the Mossberg .308, is it a sporting rifle or an AR-10? If you put a scope on it, why do you need the open sights?

Raising the scope would work, but introduces more parallax between the line of sight of the scope and the barrel bore, making it harder to zero for different ranges. Raises your cheek weld also, so you may need an elevated cheek pad too.

Yep. Always best closest to the bore. Remove the iron rear sights. You won't be needing "em". The higher you mount a scope the more 'turkey neckin" you will have to do to see through it. Which will cost you if you have to take a fast shot.

Personally, I think you're 'over-scoping' your 15-22. All you need is something like a 1-4, 1-6, or 1-8 x 25 LPVO on it. Any of those will solve your problem, and you'll have a correct scope height with enough magnification for long(er) ranges for a 22lr.

Update

Bought some wulf risers to match the scope ring and went for a shoot. Finally got it zero’d. Bought a magpul afg, a tech suppressor and some two piece bipod. Quite happy but thinking I should have bought a Harris like on my mossberg. The quality isn’t all that on current bipod. It’s something I’ll upgrade later. Everything is so expensive here shooting wise compared to what you guys pay over there.
