Default Hand guard for M&P 15-22 (22lr) that won’t leave a gap

I have a M&P 15-22 (22lr) and am trying to replace the plastic HG with an 13-14” aluminum HG. Have tried Taacom3g and Midwest these are great HG’s but when properly installed they leave a gap about an eighth of an inch between HG and receiver. Yes I have removed the two alignment tab from the receiver. Any suggestions for replacement that will not leave any gap.

Tacticool has some options that don’t leave the gap. For my own rifles it have used the cheepo free float tubes that slip over a long round nut then attach with six socket headed screws. None of the factory screw holes lined up when the tube was butted to the receiver so I drilled and tapped new holes in the correct place. Even after cutting the lugs off of the receiver, I still had to file a notch in the tube to allow zero gap. Of course I had to use the Tacticool adapter nut to start with. Tacticool didn’t offer their free float tubes when I bought my rifles or I would have used them.

Unfortunately the gap will be present with normal AR15 handguards due to the design of the 15-22 upper. Only way to get around will involve serious modification to the handguard by trial and error.

It is not an AR, so it's not a surprise the handguards for one won't fit...
