What do you think, XDm or M&P trigger is the best? Also does anyone have the specs for both guns ie length of pull, reset length and lbs? I haved a M&P 40 still in the box but I am thinking of switching to the XDm. Thanks.

A friend of mine has an XD and he really likes it. I shot a couple hundred rounds through it when I was considering one. I then tried the M&P and I liked it a lot more, so I bought one. Also, the M&P naturally pointed better for me.

Good luck in making your decision.

I have an XD in 45 and an M&P 45C and 9 full size.

The XD trigger seems a little gritty to me. The XD slide is 18 pounds vs. the 16 pound M&P, which makes a big difference to me.

I also think the M&Ps are better built.

I got an XDm in 9mm a little over a year ago and it's one of my favorite shooters. I'd tried the M&P and it never felt right for me.

Out of the box, the XDm was amazingly accurate and the trigger was 'good'... however, I sent it into Springfield for their custom trigger job and it came back 'great'.

I'd say that my Smith 952 and my XDm are my two favorite target shooting centerfire guns that I own.

I am biased towards the M&P. But I personally think the XDM triggers feel better. And they seem to get better with use. I have an XD 45 Tactical that has a great trigger and is more accurate than I can shoot. I see no need to spend more on an XDM.

Your M&P 40 is the softest shooting 40 made.

I think I would shoot one of each before making any decisions.

No experience with the Xd but I can tell you that it's pretty easy to follow the (Burwell) instructions to make a M&P trigger considerably better than out out of the box.

Wee,
I saw the Burell trigger instructions and there are a few pic's that I cannot make out the detail of what is being done. It may be more apparent once I get the parts out.

I don't have any experience with the XD. I do have three M&Ps, one of which had a trigger job by Mr. Burwell.
I would imagine stock it could be a toss up unit to unit. Once a bit of trigger work is done I can't imagine the XD is going to be any better. Equal maybe, but I seriously doubt better.
The M&P is a great platform, I'd be more than happy to own another anytime.

I don't have experience with the XDm, but I do own two stock service size XDs: a 9mm and a 45acp.

I also owned a M&P 9mm for about 3 months.

The trigger is exactly the reason I got rid of the M&P and bought another XD (the 45). The M&P trigger was long and heavy. The heavy is what I couldn't abide; couldn't break a shot without the gun 'jumping' from the trigger break.

On the other hand, I have no problem with the XD triggers, even though I am a dyed-in-the-wool single action 1911 kind of guy. While a little mushy, they are not heavy, break crisply, and have a decent reset.

In stock configuration (no smithing or kits), the XD has a superior trigger than the M&P, in my opinion. I've only handled a friend's XDm, but it too had a very good trigger. I couldn't fault the M&P for anything other than the trigger; I liked the functionality and ergonomics of the gun, but I simply refuse to own a gun with a poor trigger, and was not interested in putting more money into a trigger job.
