M&P 9c magazine finger extension
where can I get finger extension baseplates for my spare compact mags fot my M&P 9c?
do they make slip-on grips extensions to slide over full size M&P 9 mags when used with M&P 9c?
thanks

I've seen here on the forum that a lot of folks have gotten them directly from S&W simply by calling them up and asking.

If you call S&W make sure they know it's for a 12rd M&P9c, the part listed at the website is for the 10rd 9c mag and doesn't work on the 12rd.(Guess how I know) The X-Grip ext is also available from Midway, runs around $15.

I got the baseplate for my 40c mag with a phone call to S&W. I was nice, I asked if they sold them, the guy put me on hold them came back and asked for my address and said he'd have one in the mail that day. He wasn't kidding, I had it in my hands two days later.

I bought my wife a 9c a few months ago. About 10 rounds into the first mag, the white dot from the front sight popped out. I called S&W about what to do. They sent me a new front sight, asked if I wanted a FREE mag extension. When the box arrived, they had also included another 12 round mag with the extension and a ball cap. Either someone had a really good morning, or they had just been fired.

Please forgive my ignorance, and for resurrecting an old thread.
I'm considering the purchase of a 9c, but when I handled one the other day at the store, I found the grip to be unacceptably short. My pinky hangs off the bottom, and I won't have a CC gun like that.
So Google brought me here to this thread.
My question is this: Which magazines do these extension devices work on? Do they provide a finger extension for the original 9c magazines, or do they provide what is essentially a finger "filler" for a full sized 9 magazine?
If the former, then one would be using the original mags that came with. If the latter, then one must buy new full-sized mags and finger extensions too.
Is my understanding correct?

There are two different things mentioned previously... the finger rest replaces the flate baseplate on the short 12-round mag that comes with the gun. This converts it to match the other mag that ships with the gun... As mentioned, S&W is usually pretty generous and will give you the finger rests if you call and ask.
The X-Grip is a grip sleeve that slides down over the full-size 17-round M&P mag to give you a full grip when used in the compact gun. X-Grips are an aftermarket part but I believe they can be purchased from S&W directly. They are also available at online retailers like Top Gun Supply.
HTH :-)

Thanks for the info. After reading these replies and looking at some more photos on-line, I am unsure whether the one I held the other day had the finger extension installed or not. I will go look again. It may be that the standard compact magazine with the finger extension will be long enough for me to hold it comfortably.
Thanks!

Would it be helpful for me to post a pic of both?
I find the finger rest to be the better feeling of the two right now (I also have a couple of the X-Grips...) ... I tend to not get as high a grip with the X-Grip as I do otherwise, but I'm sure this is something I can train myself out of. I've only had the X-Grips a couple of days :-)
I like the idea of being able to carry the full size mag as a backup, in any case.

When I held my M&P 9c at first I did not like the mag without the finger ext. But after a couple minutes it feels fine. I shoot both mags and like both. Remember, the short mag conceals a whole lot better. If you hate it that much look at the full size M&P.

A comparison picture couldn't hurt, although I am pretty sure I have a good understanding at this point. It would certainly help someone figure it out faster for future reference. As I noted in my first post here, Google found this thread for me, so anyone who may be looking for this info in the future may very well find themselves here too.
I went back to my local store tonight, they had a 9c without the extension, and a 40c with one, so I was able to handle both and really feel the difference. I liked the extension a lot better than without, but of course, that was just in a couple minutes, and no shooting.
I had just about decided on the 9c, but now I'm having second thoughts on the 40c. But of course this is not the thread for that discussion!
I already have a full sized M&P 40, and I really like it. It's just a bit big for concealed carry.
Thanks again!

Left to right:
M&P9C 12-round magazine with flat baseplate,
M&P9C 12-round magazine with finger rest baseplate,
M&P9 17-round magazine,
M&P9 17-round magazine with X-Grip sleeve,
X-Grip sleeve
As for choosing the M&P9C or M&P40C, if it were me and I was happy with the M&P40 I'd lean towards the M&P40C to be able to use the full-size mags in the compact and to avoid having another caliber to purchase (assuming you don't already have 9mms) ... $0.02
:-)

Not sure the full size 40 will be much different, but the 40c is my CC weapon of choice. Admittedly, this is my first one, however, I've had very few issues carrying this on me the entire day, comfortably. I'm assuming that you will be carrying IWB concealed. And I'm assuming that you've worked out the bugs in terms of your waist size, the type of IWB holster(s), belt, slightly larger pants, etc., etc., you will need to consider.
We all know that there are many other smaller pistols for CC that are available, but since I'm able to carry my 40c comfortably, I don't regret for a second my decision.

Thanks for publishing the picture. I think that will be a big help to folks trying to figure this particular thing out.
Funny on the 40 vs 9 decision... I don't currently have a 9mm, but it was the lower cost of ammo that sparked me to consider getting one. I'm getting lost in the fog of the never-ending 40 vs. 9mm debate.
I will probably end up with the 9mm, because I've found a really good deal on one and the dealer doesn't have any 40cs in stock. The M&P rebate ends Monday.

I understand. I recently switched to 9mm across the board.
I looked at and shot .40cal while trying to decide but, from what I've read, terminal performance differences between 9mm and .40cal is negligible with good ammo. The cheaper cost of 9mm ammo was a factor, as was the fact that my wife and kids shoot my guns also - 9mm is easier for all of us to control while working on the fundamentals :-)
Someday I'll add a .45acp or two, but for now 9mm works best for me.

A little bit of skater tape (aka 3M anti-skid floor tape from Lowe's) on the front of the pinky extension makes the M&P 9c a lot easier to hold on to...
I called S&W on friday and they are sending me a pinky extension for my other 12 round magazine... for free.
I'm loving my M&P 9c... 200 rounds, flawlessly.

They gave me 2 extended mag caps (I bought a 3rd mag) & I bought 2 Xgrip for $15.

That includes if you live in a state with magazine capacity regulations. I called S&W and asked for a couple of extensions. I live in MA, S&W is based in MA, you'd think they'd know that I needed the 10 round ones. Nope, they sent me the 12 round bases. Totally different design between the 10 round and 12 round magazine bases. Why? I don't know, but I suspect lawyers were involved.
They did send me the right ones when I called back.

I see that S&W was sending these out for free a year ago. Is that still the case? I just bought 2 from Midway and paid $12 with their "bend you over shipping".

Thank you for posting that great magazine comparison photo. I've found the 9c grip to be too short for my two fingers when using the flat base plate magazine and too short for three fingers when using the magazine extension. I wish someone would make a 14-round magazine with an X-Grip type adapter because I find the 17-round magazine to be too long for carry.

Got one sent to me also. Made the call and had to wait for a minute as there were other calls before me but answered quickly. Told them I had been looking for some and was not able to find them in stock and would like to order one. Told me they would send one out free of charge. Took my info and said it will be in the mail. Great service!

M&P Magazine Finger Rest
My son called today and he was told...sorry can't help you. You'll have to buy a new magazine for your new M&P Shield 9mm.
*** ???
When I called for my 9c & later for my 40c I got the same treatment as other posters. One for each in the mail gratis.
I'll call tomorrow and see what's up.
I hope this is just an aberration and not a new policy.

Just tried calling S&W, they are out of stock, and just told me to "call back another time" lol.
She did say the part # for the pinky extension if we have the 12rnd mags is: 278360000
Just fyi

Check with Midway USA. I bought some finger extension base pad for some restricted capacity 9c 10 rounders from them last week for $1.99 ea. The carry the factory extended pads for the standard cap mags, but were out of stock at the time. I think theprice was the same.

I was wondering does anyone know a good leather holster for the 3.6 with the trl6. I was trying to find something that will not scratch up the guns. Also do anyone know if the NDZ pinky extensions will fit
