Forward Set Sear And Trigger Kit
Another Noob question.
The Apex site says "**This kit is recommended for COMPETITION USE ONLY and REQUIRES the use of the larger 1/8 inch sear spring & plunger set up**"
Is there a standard defense alternative?
Or shouldn't I worry about the 'warning' ?
THANKS
.Hal

I believe the DCAEK (which I had installed on my full size M&P9) is what you want for carry purposes. It makes the trigger @ 5.5 lbs. The one your looking at is for target/competition, I think it reduces trigger pull down to @ 3.5 lbs, which is too light for carry........

Hi Hal,
We place that caution for a couple of reasons. First is that the forward set sear has greater leverage, so for a given sear spring and trigger return spring the pull will measure less when compared to the stock factory, Performance Center or even our AEK sear. The pre travel is eliminated, so if you are used to the pre travel of our DCAEK/Comp-AEK, or the Pro series M&P, the first shot could break before you expect.
We are currently designing a spring suite to bring the trigger pull up above 5 lbs for carry applications. For guns with thumb safeties, and those comfortable with 1911s, the 3.5-4 lb trigger break of the FSS kit may be acceptable.

Randy,
I'm a Noob and not really used to anything.
Trigger work, your kits specifically, have been highly recommended to me as an enhancement to my M&P 45.
I like the idea of reducing the pre-travel/up-take as accomplished by the FSS kit. However, it seems that this low trigger pull might not be the "safest' alternative for a Carry/Defense weapon in the hands of a relative novice.
So, what is the status of the "FSS Carry" spring kit you mention is under development? Maybe I should wait? Or, would this be offered as an FSS Add-on option if I went ahead with the DCAEK now?
THANKS AGAIN,
.Hal

That description fits me to a "T", and that's exactly why I went with the FSS on my (thumb safety-equipped) M+P9 FS!

Hi Hal,
The stronger trigger return spring for carry application on the forward set is still a couple of months out. One option would be to use the MA compliant trigger return spring as it will up the weight of pull. There are several gunsmith shops in MA that will sell you a MA TRS. I think Remsport is one, and Mike LaRocca is another.
The FSS D/C TRS should be offered as a stand alone spring when it comes out.

THANKS, but I hadn't filled out my profile
I'm actually in suburban Detroit. Do you know of anyone around here that could help me out with a MA TRS?

I'm in Michigan too!
Anyways, I plan on getting the FSS and the RAM the second that the funds become available.
The M&Ps tend to go low left, my .40 5"Pro does too. Will the FSS help me to eliminate this problem?
I dont have this issue with other guns, but it has made me stop and re examine my shooting habits. Back to the snapcaps for a while. I reload, so I've made up a bunch of dummy rounds. Since they are identical less the spent primer, and I load from a ziploc bag, they go into the mags completely at random.
