Ruger Mark III 22/45
Anyone use a Mark III 22/45 for training? I bought it to train for a 1911 but then decided on the M&P9 Pro 5". The weight and balance is VERY similar so is grip angle, but the grip isn't right. Going to look for a Hogue cover or something.

I have that model of Ruger 22 and I use it to practice. Yes, the grip is not a 1911 grip. But the pistol is fairly reliable and cheap to shoot, so does the job. I don't like the sights. It has a fiber optic front and a broad adjustable rear. I will try to replace the rear sight when I get a round toit. Which may be never. I like the pistol, despite its faults.

Mine came with black front sight and the adjustable square notch rear in all black. After adding a front Hi-Viz green sight, they are very similar to the Novak sights that came on my M&P9 Pro 5".
It has removable 1911 grips on it. I'd like to find something closer to the M&P grips to use on it. Even if they have to be modified to fit.

I have a 22/45 MK III I use for training. I gotta say it helped a decent bit I can get a lot more trigger time with it then I can anything else I own due to price of ammo. I did mod mine a bit. I did a VQ Trigger and Sear upgrade. I also replaced the MK III hammer bushing with the MK II so I could remove the mag safety and I did a sling shot mod on it. Over all its a tack driver as far as accuracy is concerned and good shootings habits are good shooting habits regardless of caliber.

Yes, great gun for inexpensive practice. Accurate, reliable with any decent quality ammo, inexpensive and fun. I installed the Majestic Speed Strip kit in mine, which simplifies field stripping, shortens the trigger pull, and removes the magazine disconnect. Also replaced the front sight with a green fiber optic.

LOL! The field strip routine is a real pain. I had to buy a hammer (rubber mallet) in order to do the procedure. It is a nice, accurate, little gun and is inexpensive to shoot. My only complaint is the grip. My M&P .40 fits the hand perfectly (with large backstrap), whereas the Mark III has too small a grip.

Yeah, the grip is pretty skinny. I've seen some folks sand down the molded in checkering, drill and tap holes, then install 1911 grip screw bushings and attach 1911 grip panels to the gun. I just haven't had the guts to try that modification myself yet
The 22/45 was the most difficult gun to field strip and reassemble that I have ever seen, bar none, prior to installing the speed-strip kit.

The new ones have RP at the end of the model number. These fit (almost) standard 1911 grips. I have a thick set on my that feels similar to the M&P Large.
The back strap is not as comfortable but I'm looking at a Hogue grip that might do the trick.
