These are actually supposed to be 12 round magazines. but Smith and Wesson is in Massachusetts which is forcing them to go to 10 round magazines.

Since the 9c will accept the full size 17 round magazine I bought one of them. Disassembling the 2 clips I found that the spring and follower in the 10 round clip is exactly the same size as the one that's in the 17 round clip. No wonder you can't get 10 rounds in the clip! So I cut the spring down to where it's commensurate with the size of the clip.

You may say it's illegal to modify the spring, but I say it's unconstitutional for Massachusetts to arbitrarily limit the size of the clip. Besides, I live in Ohio where the 12 round clip is legal so Massachusetts can kiss my ***.

It's still hard, but now at least possible to get the 10th round in the clip. I suspect if I cut the follower down it would be easier. Maybe even possible to get 12 rounds in the clip, but I've got the 17 round clip anyway so what the hell.

Smith and Wesson needs to get smart like some of the other gun manufacturers and move out of cukoo land to a state like Tennessee or Texas.

This has nothing to do with S&W's location in Mass. It has everything to do with state law covering the person BUYING the magazine. If you reside in Mass, then you are restricted to 10 rounds, just like us in CA unless you are exempt in some fashion.

There are other states with mag limits. The limits, if any, vary by state.

The only resolve I came to that works is to shave the feet off of the followers until you can get the 10th round in. I did it with all my offending mags and now can get the 10 rounds in easy. The problem that S&W could fix if they had a mind to is simply correct the design of the followers. The Follower bottoms out on the mag and there is nothing you can do but either load 9 rounds or shorten the depth of the follower. The fix only takes a minute or two with a file.

Take care

Bob

Bob's right - carefully shave the follower feet and the problem will disappear. Here's a good YouTube video on how to do it - http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XdWLlBJ1ot8

I bought my 9c in Ohio about 2 years ago and it came with the 10 round clips. At that time, and up to about 6 months ago, there were no 12 round clips available anywhere in the known universe. Now I see there are some. Halleluiah! I'm gonna buy me a couple.

Right. If you currently live in an non-restricted state, you can buy them as big as they make them. Get a few more 17s and an XGrip or two.

Here in CA, I recently bought some handguns that don't have 10 round mags available. The FFL had to block them down to 10.

For those struggling with the 10 rd mags I have found the only solution is to trim back the bottom of the follower. Cutting the springs won't help much. The problem is the follower bottoms out on the base. I took a file to mine and removed material from the base of the follower until the rounds loads with ease. Why Smith changed to the newer followers is anyone's guess, I suspect they changed suppliers.

Take Care

Bob
