Default new M&P 45 fte problem

Bought the Shield 45 this past weekend and got it to the range yesterday. Only took 200 gr semi wadcutters with me and it was a disaster. Never got even one to eject. The handloads were plated swc on top of 4 gr. of Bullseye. Tomorrow i am going to try it again with 230 factory ball. The recoil spring is kinda stiff. Anyone else had this issue?

4 gr of Bullseye With a 200 gr bullet is under minimum load from any of the manuals I have. An older Hodgdon Manual stars at 4.4 and The 9th edition of Hornady's starts at 5. I think your hand loads are to light . Bet the factory ammo give you no problems at all.

Seen this before with many auto pistols. Your load is simply too light to cycle your pistol. Increase your powder charge or go to heavier bullet. With the 200 SWC try 4.5 grs and if that won;t cycle try 5.0 grs.

I shoot 5.3 grains of Bullseye behind a 200 grain SWC, have shot 950 rounds through my shield and I haven't had any issues.

Same advice as given on another forum.

Get your reloading manual out and re-check the minimum/maximum load for the bullet you are using. If the current load is not allowing the pistol to cycle - work up your load as you normally would. Increase by .02 grains until you find a load that will cycle your pistol - then play with load until you find one that is the most accurate out of your handgun. Just don't exceed the recommended maximum load of BE for the bullet you are using. You should hit the "sweet spot" before you get to maximum.

Every pistol will cycle differently. The derail spring is pretty stiff on a Shield so it should be common sense that a light load will mot completely cycle the slide.

It's pretty much basic reloading 101 and I don't say that to be critical. You just have to realize that every pistol is going to function differently with your reloads and you will usually need to have to work up a load for every new handgun. While revolvers don't "cycle" - you still have to work up a load for them spending on what bullet weight/design/size (diameter) if you are trying to get POA to come close to POI.

Once you get your 45 load worked up for you Shield - try it in your other 45s. If it works well in them - then you can stick to your new load for your Shield and use it in your others. If it doesn't - you may have to load separately for each individual pistol and label them well for what the load is and for which gun.

Good luck - it may take a little work but you'll get it.
