I'm seriously thinking of changing the sights on a few of my M&Ps to fiber optic.

From those of you with some experience with FO on these guns, what guidance/preferences can you provide?

At this point my preference is toward Truglo TFO sights or Hi-Viz. I understand the TFOs have the added benefit of Tritium, but the pipes also seem more enclosed than some of the other brands. What do you folks think?

Are there other brands you prefer? If so, why?

How about advice on self-installing vs using a gunsmith and whether or not it pays to pick up a 'sight pusher'?

NOTE: These are all defensive carry guns or HD guns.

I sent my MP45 slide to Novak Sights and they installed the fiber optics. I went with red/green. Check out their website Welcome to Novak's

Those sights look fantastic.

Definitely under consideration, but if I go with them, I'd probably have somebody local like Greg Derr do the install/sighting to save shipping.

My only experience is with 10-8 Performance FO front sight. Works great during the day. Sort of useless in low light. I daylight acquiring the front sight is fast! I use red.

Generally, I hear that green displays brighter than red.

You must be pleased with the red. Have you had any regrets in not going green?

I actually had green on one gun as a test , but my eye did not pick up the sight quick enough. So I stay with red as I pick up the front sight much quicker.

I don't install rear sights, fronts I will do.

Anyone else?

Any experience with Truglo TFOs or others?

Anyone install their own (with or without a special pusher tool)?

I have Truglo TFO's on all of my Glocks and my XDM 45. Glocks are no sweat to change but the XDM was a pain in the arse. Had to cut the front sight off with a die grinder. I have not changed over sights on my M&P 45 yet. but I will soon.
My eyes are 62 years old and the best sights that I have ever had on a pistol are the Truglo TFO's. Bright fiber optics in daylight, and bright night sights after dark. these night sights are better than Siglites by far :).

Great to hear. I was concerned that the fiber optics would be dimmer than most since they seem more shrouded than others. I've never been satisfied with tritium night sights, but am intrigued by the combination of tritium with an amplification (the light pipes).

I guess I'm narrowing TFOs or the Novaks, understanding the difference between them (tritium and cost).

I've had the truGlo TFO's on my M&P 40 for about 4 months now.

I absolutly love them. I use yellow rear / green front and am very happy with that choice. I find them very bright and easy to acquire in dark and low light conditions.

In bright light they are only slightly better than any other hi-viz type sight.

I had the same set-up on my Glock 27, with green front and yellow rear. I absolutely love the Tru Glo TFO's and will be getting them on my M&P soon
