I am in no way shape or form a lawyer, but I am a firearms instructor. I would council anyone against changing anything on their carry pistol from how it comes from the factory, especially when it comes to built-in safety features.
If you ever have to use it to defend yourself and end up in court, you could be made out to look like a "gun nut" (to the Jury) who was bent on killing that poor defense attorney's client.
That is just my opinion.

You can find a how-to video on youtube. I have not removed mine. It's no problem to just leave the safety off if you don't want to use it.

You can do it, but if you are going to carry it, I would side with gm272gs.
Besides just leave the safety off. That's what I do. It is a fairly stiff safety with a noticeable click, and won't come on unless you physically do it yourself. So my counsel would be to leave it on the pistol and put it on off position.

I also would not mess with removing the safety.
I carry mine with the safety off and have no concerns.

It seems that one of the top indoor sports in this country is suing people. You can be cleared of any criminal culpability in a self-defense shooting and then get sued back to the Late Pleistocene era for wrongful death or wounding. There are lawyers who are very good at ruining you that way. I think removing the safety of a pistol could be financial suicide, when leaving it installed but in the off position might be slightly more attorney-proof.

There is a YouTube video where someone shows how to do it. You cannot entirely remove the safety lever, as it holds in the sear pin. The YouTube video shows cutting off the tab part the safety that blocks the trigger movement. I just carry with the safety off.

My Shield is the only carry pistol I own that has a manual (thumb) safety. As already mentioned, the safety is pretty stiff with an audible click. It's actually easier to Disengage the safety than to Engage it. I've been carrying it every day since last May in the Off position and it hasn't inadvertently engaged on its own.
If there were a version of the Shield that didn't have an external safety I would have chosen it, but since there isn't, it's easier to simply leave it in the off position than to remove it.
