Call to S&W about M&P .22 sights
I recently purchased a .22 and a .40 FS, M&P handguns. Called S&W about the possibility of ordering sights for the .22 that match the "3 dot" sights of the .40. Their response was that the front and rear sights for the .40 or 9mm will press/slide into the .22. They're sending me a free set of "3 dot" sights for a 9mm/.40 and told me that they'll fit perfectly into the .22 frame. Does this jive with the experiences of the M&P forum members?

The front is already a white dot. I ordered the rear, M&P dot sight from Midway yesterday. So I guess I'll find out.

Please let us know if the info they gave you is accurate. If it is, my M&P22 may be wearing a HiViz overmolded fiber optic front sight soon!

JackD, In response to your post, I called S&W this morning. (I have M&P9fs and the 22). I was told the exact opposite. The M&P22 is a unique rear sight and would NOT interchange with the other M&P framework. I spoke with a guy named "Mark", who did you talk to?
Color me confused?!!??

bgs210,
I was pleased enough to hear from S&W about the sights that I didn't note the gentleman's name who spoke with me. As soon as the sights arrive they'll be given to our gunsmith for his comments on whether or not they'll fit up with the .22. Will let everyone know some time next week.

I used the rear sight from my 9c on the M&P22 after I upgraded the 9c to NS. It slid right in and after a few light taps it was seated into final alignment and hasn't moved.

I put a factory 9L rear sight on my 22. Works fine. Pushes almost all the way on by thumb pressure and a few taps from a rubber mallet to finish it up. Just take care not to over tighten the set screw once you get the new one set. It is easy to dimple the aluminum slide. Enough to be seen from the bottom of the slide

S&W customer support is awesome and even though the Walther's they are USA distributers for only have a one year warranty, their generosity extends even there. I asked about the loose breakdown key one of the Walther pistols uses and they sent me two of them--free.

This is what I love about my local gun shop:
I walked into the shop at lunch and waited my turn. (Local Chief Deputy was ahead of me).
I told Andy what I didn't like about the MP22 I had purchased from him 10 days ago. "The rear sights don't match my MP9fs" - and then told him the tale of this thread.
Andy: "You've got the .22 with ya, don't ya?"
Me: "Yep"
Andy: "Go get it..."
I bring it back in. And find that he is already taking the rear sight from a MP9c that he had recently traded for. He then installs WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL the rear sight onto my MP22.
Andy: "There ya go."
Me: Mouth hanging open, "But that leaves you with a gun you can't sell..."
Andy: "No problem, I know you've already checked the S&W website. How much is the rear sight?"
Me: $16.50
Andy: "Gimme $17.00 and have fun shooting this weekend."
Me: Walks out with matching sights on both the MP9 and MP22.

I have an M&P 22 with 9mm rear sight installed. Not sure if front sight from the 9mm is compatible. I have one, but the fit seems much different.

Sights from S&W came in today.
The sights arrive today from S&W. The rear and front look like they'll fit. I'm taking the .22 and the new sights from S&W to the gunsmith this weekend. Will let the forum know the results.

Nice, you don't find many shops like that anymore.

Got my .22 back with the new rear sights installed for free from the gun dealer. Haven't shot yet, but the 9mm/.40 rear sights on the .22 now make it a 3 dot like the larger calibers. Thanks for all the input throughout this thread.

I've been super pleased with my MP22 with "3 dot" sights. While mine costed $17 versus getting a free set from S&W - I couldn't be happier. I had them installed right then by my local gun shop. We made sure the POA/POI was the same while still in the shop with a bore laser sight on both the .22 and the 9mm. He got the replacement rear sight for the donor MP9c.
Two weekends of beautiful weather (sunny and near 70°) allowed me to really test the MP22 & MP9 with some range time. Both are grouping in the "X" at 7 and 10 yards.
I'm tickled!!!

Anyone had experience putting fiber optics on yet? Looking to upgrade any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Just came upon this thread today. Called S&W and they are doing the exact same for me. The rep I spoke with indicated the rear sights for the 9, 40, and 45 are all the same.
Thanks again for your heads-up JackD.
I really do like this site A LOT.

Called S&W customer service and they also shipped me a set of rear and front sights, no charge and no questions asked. You gotta love there customer service. Only problem is sights will not slide in but is very tight at the very beginning. Thought it would go in most of the way and I would just need to tap it in slightly but not the case. I'm concerned about hammering it in since its an aluminum slide. Might just take it to a local gunsmith. Any idea of whats a reasonable charge to install?

Never understood what was so great about thier customer service. I had complaints that were never adressed, emails that were never answered, and recently I sent a gun in for repair, it took several contcts, and several weeks to get a shipping label, and after I sent it in, they never told me they recieved the gun. After 2 and a half weeks, and 3 emails asking about the missing gun, they told me they got it a couple weeks ago, and the turnaround was 4 weeks.
I emailed springfield once about a repair, got a response within a couple hours, had the gun in the mail the next day, and it was back at my house the next week.
Given a choice to have SA and S&W side by side, I'll take SA every time.

I had a similar response regarding the pinky extensions for my 9c. Everybody was posting that they were getting them free when calling to ask so I tried it and was told they were in stock and that they were $x.xx. Said no thanks. Then I emailed about it and got two of them shipped NC. I think it's a little of a roulette game and may simply depend on which CSR you speak to. However it does surprise me that people are getting sights for free.

I got my M&P.22 Monday.....love this gun. Don't like the rear site....called S&W CS and they put a new rear site two dot in the mail the same day.....FREE. Now that's service. The only drawback is there is no elevation adjustment on the new one coming. Don't know how that will workout.

Just got off the phone with don @ S&W, he or she (couldn't tell) told me that the m&p 9,40 sights are not interchangeable with the M&P 22, and told me not to even try! Not very nice so I hung up. Im just going to order a Dawson precision front F/O sight for It. As soon as September hits I have competition with this handgun! Wish me luck!

I called and got Mark. I asked him for a new set of the factory .22 sights, and he sent me a 9MM rear sight. I don't want to use it. It's steel and I might screw it up putting it on. And the only problem I have with the factory M&P22 sight is the black on black coloring. Other than that, it's adjustable for windage and elevation, something that the 9MM sight is not. I'm gonna hold off. I'm hoping some other manufacturer eventually sells a dedicated M&P22 adjustable 2 dot sight.

Well, this is my first post here but I did feel compelled to make a post.
I called S&W and explained to them I own pretty much the full line of M&P including the 15/22 rifle and that I had an issue with the sights on the 22 pistol.
To my amazement they are sending me a full set of sights front and rear free of charge! Now that's customer service.
Big thanks the Ken at S&W support for your great customer service. I couldn't be happier

On the .22 it does not matter, but just to be "correct" out and in on ejection port side (right).

You had better luck than me!!!
You had better luck than me, first time firing my new M&P 22, found rear sights did not adjust down enough to make up for the gun firing to high. S&W had me ship the gun back to them, looks like the only thing different after they got done with it was a scratch and a new screw on the rear sight and the rear sight was falling off the gun when I opened the returning box. I think it sat on there shelf for 2 weeks, then someone replaced the rear sight screw and played with some, then through it in the mail. Still the same gun with the same problem, no real service here!!!!! I called them back, they told me how they had done so much more that the paperwork noted with the returning gun, ya right, and the tech even admitted that he wasn't a fan of the M&P gun sights, now wouldn't you think they would have replace them with sight that work. I wont be sending it back for more scratches, gun is new and this is what you get, maybe I should have gone with the less expensive Ruger SR22.
