M&P Ammo. What do you carry
Just wondering what you guys carry.
I'm running FMJ for now, once I'm finished developing a load, I'll be carrying reloads, cast.
A clean shoot is a clean shoot, no need for the old ayoob debate again.
I have no CPL, so I am required to case unload, and uncase reload, everytime I enter or exit a vehicle. Repeated chamberings of the same round causes bullet setback, and thus, dangerous overpressure conditions. Im not buying expensive hollowpoints just to throw them out. Besides, I get better groups from my reloads.
ETA, Im carrying a 5" M&P Pro .40

I don't know a lot, but I have heard 2 things many times. First, don't carry reloads for self-defense. We are human and can make mistakes and when seconds count you don't want an experimental homemade round failing you. Second, spend the money on the JHP otherwise your FMJs are going to go through the bad guy, and anyone or anything unlucky enough to be standing behind him. Just my $.02 oh, probably Ayoob's too! =o )
And if you don't want an Ayoob debate, then just remember Col. Cooper's rule #4: be sure of your target and what's behind it.

If course.
Some may call reloads "experimental", but others may consider them handmade, tailored to the gun. Why shoot a factory round that gives a 6" group, when I can make a round that shoots a 3" group? Shot placement is key, and a superior, more accurate round will be a safer round that can stop a threat with fewer shots.

Ok, so assuming your reloads are superior, won't over-penetration still be a risk? And who needs a tight group to stop an attacker? There's a nice big torso full of all sorts of squishy bits to aim at!

I do care about overpenetration, but I wouldn't be able to keep up with the ammo costs.
As was pointed out, know whats behind the target.

Currently Hornady 200 gr XTP in both my 45.
My 642-2 BUG - Winchester 125 gr SJHP +P.
Soon as the snow melts I'll burn the old 45 carry stuff and probably go to PDX-1. I see Wally World has some on the shelf.

M&P Ammo. What do you carry
I shoot sub 2" groups at 8 yards with my M&P45 using 230gr. TMJ Speer Lawman when at the range. I prefer to carry 230gr. Hornady Critical Defense in my M&P45. I shoot 115gr. TMJ Speer Lawman in my SR9c when at the range. I also carry 115gr. Critical Defense in my SR9c. I find I also re-chamber the same round often. This partly why I carry Critical Defense, the bullet is designed to resist set back from being re-chambered multiple times. Another reason is the powder is low flash helping to retain your night vision in a bad night time situation. I also shoot my carry ammo every couple of months, for 2 reasons. 1, to get trigger time with my carry ammo. 2, so I always have fresh ammo in the gun. I also have carried Speer Gold Dot in my carry guns.
I do reload for both 9mm and 45 AUTO, but its mainly for target practice. I have worked up several defense loads but prefer factory ammo to carry.

Carry 9mm Ammo
Winchester 115 gr Silvertips. I just fing it to be 100% reliable and very, very accurate. It also shows velocities that are alot faster than other NON +P ammo on the market.

Federal 230 grain Hydra Shok or Remington 23o grain Golden Saber. Both chamber reliably and are accurate.

I'm carrying 180 grn. Remington Golden Saber or 180 grn. Winchester Ranger T in my .40's, and 115 grn. Winchester SXZ or 124 grn. Fed. HST in the 9mm. When I carry the .357 Magnum, which is rare these days, it's filled with 110 grn. Winchester JHP.

USBP history with all below earning high marks;
.357-issue was the 110 JHP but 125 JHP was buy your own, which most did.
9mm-115 BPLE JHP
.45-180 JHP and 230 Hydra-Shok
.40- was 155 JHP now 180 JHP (Current.)
Primary in my M&P 9mm the BPLE JHP
In some spare magazines the 124 NATO, (Who cares that's not a hollowpoint but has many other purposes).

FMJ are fine for the range but to use on the street I find alot wrong with it. I find it a poor bullet for hunting and I know hunting and SD are different but neither hunting or sd are a place for FMJ. thats my 2 cents and it was free.

If you shoot someone with reloads, when they sue you, that will be an issue that will be used against you in court.

We have castle doctrine here, you can't be sued for a clean shoot.
Any lawyer worth his salt would just argue the good points about reloads against the prosecutors fantasies.
