Maybe not for so much longer. They have a way of sensing attitudes....

I initially thought i wanted the PPS but the Shield feels MUCH better in hand and if its anything like its big brothers, reliability will not be an issue.

What make and model of Holster do you use for your shield?

I use my Smith Desantis speed scabbard made for M&P compacts. Tighten the tension screw...fits like a glove. The shield is only slightly shorter than the compacts.

Given the dimensions of the M&P 40 Shield are similar to the 9 Shield, why do I carry the Shield -vs- 40c? Because I can't handle the extra 1.3" length, .3" width/height or an additional 7 oz? I understand S&W is going after a very popular CCW market right now but does this mean that the 9c & 40c is going to slowly die off? What am i missing here?

I own M&P 40c and I still went ahead and got myself shield in 9mm. It is a big difference, you need to handle both of them to understand. I needed something smaller, didn't care about pocket gun, but wanted to make sure that when wearing shirt and tie, it won't print as much as my 40c, shield is doing that trick for me. I don't care about the capacity so the slimmer version of a trusted pistol, is no brainer for me. It comes down to personal tastes.

Totally agree. For me there is a big difference between the compact and shield. I've been wearing my shield all and forgot I had it on. Never experience that with my compacts.

I myself got 9mm for one reason only that thin gun would be handful in 40 S&W.

I think it comes down to the close you are wearing, when I wear my typical weekend attire, t-shirt + loose shirt I don't mind wearing my 40c. But anything thinner I would rather have my shield on me. I am well aware of my 40c. And I am 6'3" 250lb guy, and Shield 9 just disappears on me.
Just do add on I think the "c's" and "shield's" complement each other. would I own shield in 40? Nope. 40c is plenty for me.

Yep. I'm 6' 2''. 210lbs. The shield will be great for summer wear. During the winter I can carry FS depending what I'm wearing and where I'm going. All personal preference.

A friend of mine has an M&P without a slide lock safety. The is a blank pin in the hole in the frame where it would normally go.
I'd like to see this option on the shield. There is not any more reason for a safety on striker fired or DA only pistol as there is on a DA revolver. Glocks don't have them and either do the compact Sigs, Kahrs, Keltecs, or Beretta Nanos.
It's just sopmething else to have to think about in a stress situation that doesn't have an busines being ther in the first place except that lawyers and politician who know nothing about guns insist upon it.

I think Smith has been listening to all the Glock owners asking for a single stack 9/40 from Glock. I think they have found themselves a nice market that Glock has been ignoring for too many years. Glock 26 to M&P 9c convert here!

I'd sell my 9c and get a Shield if I could, but I'd lose money on the 9c. Looks like I'm stuck with it!

Have both
ya, I just found a C. I waited for the shield for 4-5 months and finally got it in Dec. I like it quit a bit. I loved my friends Compact...and couldn't justify getting another 9 until all this gun stuff going on. I have a Taurus pt92 with 3 15 round mags....but really like this MP series. I've never shot better than with the compact out of the box....so I just found one for about 510 total with paperwork and shipping and took awhile to hit the BUY button....but did it. But can't find them anywhere for awhile. Other than on in a local shop for like 600-650. Oh well, sure I can get money back out of it if I need to. But with the potential/possible band on High Cap mags, I decided to get it with it's 2 12 round mags. wouldn't mind a 17 rounder like my friend but hey it's still more. It will be a great shooter, light and something to carry with a few more rounds if I really desire to do it, probably in winter time in worst type neighborhoods. still hurts to spend the doe.

I carry a M&P 40c for daily carry, I like that you have 10 rounds of high power ammo, to drop a perportrator if you need to, God forbid. If the shield was more available I would have one of them as well. I carry .380 often. I know shots have to be placed with this pistol well. But the .380 shoots very accuate with little effort. Do I feel comfortable shooting .380, yes I do. But it carries very well. Three or four pops to the chest with a .380 will give me the chance to get out of a situation, if not stop the perp totally. Put one in the head, day is over. Shoot and carry what feels best to you.
