Default First M&P and a question

I got my first M&P yesterday a 40 Compact. I have not fired it yet but really like it so far. It looks like it is well built and from what I have read should shoot great.

I do have a question though. Should the take down lever stay down on it's own when I flip it with the slide open? Mine springs back up on it's own. It's still easy to take apart though. I don't see it as a problem but am curious.

Thanks, Al

The cause of this is a burr in te take down lever mechanism. It is catching the spring which will snap it back up. A few of these have that issue. U can take a dremel to it or send it back to smith. They will take care of it quickly. Mine had it. It should stay at 6 o'clock position when taking it down without snapping back up. Ith will turn it around quick for u if you don't want to DIY. Hope this helps

I had the same issue with my 9 compact. There's some extra material left over on the takedown lever from the casting process. search youtube for the video that shows how to get the lever out.. its really simple. Hand file the bur out so that the edge is flat, then put it back in. The lever will stay down once you rotate it from then on. Good luck

Thanks for the info. Sounds simple enough. It looks like a good Sunday morning before everybody gets up job.

I did it on mine and it literally took less than one minute to fix. that was with a smooth hand file.

It looked so simple that I went ahead and did it. Took a couple of swipes with a jewlers file and it works perfect now.

Thanks again.
