Default OWB For The Shield

Has anyone tried the Fobus Evolution paddle holster for the shield? Or discovered a good OWB holster that won't break the bank?

Casino customs
owb kydex
starts at $50

I've got one for my M&P9c and another for my CM9. I'm not sure if he has a blue gun for the shield yet though.

I'm looking to get an Evolution for mine, for the occasional quick trip to the store, but mostly I'll likely be going with an RKBA holster for OWB, and a Cleveland's Holster for IWB...

I have on order a Garret Industries Silent Thunder STX Kydex+leather holster (belt slide version). They are also waiting for the blue gun before making it, so will be a few weeks. Apparently, S&W didn't get all of the holster makers going with a heat start; just the big guys.

I plan to order that Desantis holster for the Shield - unfortunately, the damn thing is like $70.

I know someone at Galco - I talked to him. They tried the various models of FLETCH holsters made for other guns... Just to see if the Shield would work in any of them. He said that if it did fit in 1, the backstrap didn't work or vice versa. He helped me out for an FNP holster years ago - an XD holster worked.

There are no plans to make a Fletch holster for the SHield either. So, I'll have to go with that Desantis

Well I found a Fobus for $24 on eBay, so if it doesn't work then so be it. I want the DeSantis three slot pancake holster too, but $70 is a lot. Maybe I'll sell my DeSantis one from my LC9 and use that money towards one for the shield.

Well, I want something with a sweat shield. Many of the OWB has no strap - and no sweat shield. High Noon (who supposedly making holsters for The Shield) makes one with no strap and with a sweat shield. But, the retention strap folds a but further away from the body than a sweat shield with NO strap. So,that's the style of holster I want

Not wanting to be a Holster Snob, but paying 70 to 100 dollars for a custom made leather holster is not unreasonable! You can really tell the difference between assembly line and custom made. A good holster and belt are a must for comfortable and discreet concealed carry..

Oh, I know very well how much a nice holster costs. Many are over $100. Hell, even a Galco is in the $50+ range

Maybe Don Hume will make a 721 OT for the Shield. I know they have one for the PPS and if many PPS holsters work with the Shield, that may be something to look into. I have a 721 OT with sweat shield for my full size 1911s and find it to be very well made.

IWB is the way (in my opinion) to carry the "Shield". Check Theis Holsters out.

I have a Fobus that just has M&P 40 stamped on the side. It was cheap and fit my M&P 9. It has an adjustment screw on the side for tightness and WILL adjust tight enough to hold the Shield nice and snug. You can hear it snap in when seated. You could also take the rubber spacer out of the adjustment and get a tighter yet fit. Fits on my Tacticial belt great.

Cheap holsters can be dangerous and unsafe. Quality holsters do cost money, because of the materials used and craftsmanship. People pay good money for a quality firearm then disrespect it with a cheap holster. That just doesn't make good sense to me.

I use the scabbard speed holster that Smith sells (made by DeSantis) for the M&P compact. I tightened down the retention screw and it fits like a glove. The compacts and shield are very close in length.

I cant carry IWB due to some abdomen pain issues. I was carrying a 92FS IWB before now. I bought the Shield for pocket and OWB carry, personally

Have you had any issues with the Regulators getting loose over time? Or with the exposed mag release buttons?

I have the evolution for my 9c and it also works for my full size 9. It's very comfortable and I'm sure it's no different with the shield model.

I've had no issues with them getting loose. I carry (primarily) with a Wilderness Instuctor belt and they have stayed tucked and tight with everything I've carried.

I just got my Evo-roto Fobus, it fits nice haven't wore it out anywhere yet. Without a belt (why I chose a paddle holster), I'm not sure it's going to be the best choice for CC. Don't hold tightly to the body as my safariland, the pants I tried with is not real snug in the waist though. Maybe a tighter fitting pants and a little looser shirt would do.

Ordered it straight from the Desantis website. I think it was like $78.

About a 3 week wait and then 1 week for shipping to get it to you

Yes, I like it a lot. I usually buy Galco, so its unusual that I don't have to break in a super tight holster. The gun slides in and out with no issues, brand new.

I would buy it again - I do not regret the purchase
