I called Quantico Tactical again just to bug them about ship times for the 45acp Shield.
She said late June, then she wanted to make sure she said "that is what Smith and Wesson has told us".
Ready to see them but also hope they get it right.

I have one on order with a LGS, $400 cash OTD.
It's showing back ordered in his ordering system, so he doesn't know when he'll see it.

Looking like Jul to me. All in good time.

Got my response today from S&W.........2-3 more weeks until they ship to the distributors. Looking more like August now until we have them in our hands.

as far a giving the Shield 45 a year to "get the bugs out" I disagree Its an M&P a smaller reduced thinner version still and M&P. The Glock 43 seems to be a winner even when the first few came out. Sure you had your lemons but for the most part the G43 seems to be doing well. It'll be the same way with the shield 45, I for one will be buying one with out hesitation, as my 3 Shields (2- 9mm one with a safety one without a Manuel safety, and one in 40) have been 100% utterly reliable and amazingly accurate. I expect noting less when the Shield 45 is available.

Kinda like buying a Car, take the Toyota Forerunners for example, They have changed the body style and engines BUT its still a Toyota a well made reliable vehicle.

I can't help but wonder if S&W has any plans to come out with a Performance Center version of the Shield 45. Since they have the PC Shield in 9mm and 40, it would seem like a no brainer.
I think I'll wait a while and see what happens.

I'm sure they will, I'm just wondering if it would be a benefit? The porting on a 9mm or 40 seems like it might have a benefit due to the higher pressure cartridges, the 45 I'm wondering if you would have as much benefit or any with the cartridge running at a lot lower pressure? If that's the case, the only advantage is the sights and trigger. I could care less about the sights, I would rather have trijicon night sights, so for me the only upgrade is the trigger. Am I off on my thinking or do you think the porting wouldn't have much if any effect on the way it shoots?

There was shield 45 on gunbroker yesterday for a short while. It had a starting bid of $459 and a buy now price of $799. It did not last very long, someone bought it at the Buy now price of $799. They must have wanted it real bad.

I heard on Facebook that some distributors are showing them in stock right now, so they could be arriving at anytime in LGS

There are always those people that want the first new thing. I'm sure they'll be available soon enough at normal prices.

There's 2 Shield 45's on gunbroker,one has a buy it now price of $469 item#569830913 I'd probably go for it if I haven't already put a deposit & ordered one from my LGS.

The photo is not a .45, no front slide serrations.

It has the right frame texturing. Hopefully they omitted the forward serrations in production models. It looked terrible and didn't appear all that useful.

I wrote both sellers and both of them have thumb safeties. One auction is gone now, but the other is still there.

2 LGS are watching for one for me, and both are seeing nothing available.

Stopped by a big box store and asked when they expected to get the new 45acp Shields in. Got the RCA dog look from the man behind the counter. Explained it was new, and just starting to ship, RCA dog look again.

I'm afraid if I hold one, I'm gonna make it rain with Washingtons, and take it home.

I've got mine coming on Weds. The LGS got ONE from his distributer and it's MINE !!!!

Great news, my M&P Shield 45acp will be at my FFL on Monday.

Bad news, I called my FFL and he will be closed all next week, going to FL for vacation!

That's how my luck would go too!

Also got email from Quantico Tactical that they are running sale on 9mm shields til July 14th. $299 but I am going hold off and get the .45 (unless I can get wife to think she wants the 9mm and I end up with both. Just got to get her to think it's her idea. You know her ideas are all great mine are dumb or just not to her liking lol)

My LGS has a few LE Shield 45's. They started selling them yesterday and one has my name and # on it. Planning to pick it up today or tomorrow. I like the "grippier" surface and the trigger is really good. IMO, better than the Performance Center Shields.

I heard back from 3 of my LGS and none of them can get a Shield 45 right now, nothing showing on the distributor lists.

This cash is burning a hole in my pocket...........LOL

If anyone sees one at their LGS at a good price and they will ship to Maine..........let me know and I'll place the order.

True, got the same email and was for only Shield with OUT the safety.

Still a great price but 1911 guy and like the safety.

I'm a 1911 guy, but the Shield safeties are small and quite stiff and the larger type on the fullsize guns are at a high angle when in the off/down position, are too thin to ride my thumb on and are too far back. I'm surprised nobody's made a wider thumb safety at a lower angle. They're just stamped metal parts.

So far I've only seen the safety model being sold on websites and Gunbroker. I really want the 45 Shield, but not enough to buy one with a feature that doesn't work well for me. Before the "don't use it" comments, I don't want a feature on my gun that I'll ignore that may activate on it's own no matter how low the possibility.

That vid makes me want one. 5lb trigger pull and audible/likely tactile reset and accuracy if you do your job.
Just need to see some side by side comparisons to a 45C and see what you shave off when you lose a few rounds.

I picked mine up today and it's very impressive. I think it feels better than my 9mm due to the slightly thicker grip & the stippling type finish. Shoots great for a compact. Accurate nice shooting, no complaints. Put 50 through it without a hitch, I think it's a keeper. ����

OK, for the first time in my gun owning career, I'm jealous. We can't get this here in CA, but I want one.

I paid $419.95 for mine. It was received by my LGS late Tuesday and logged in. Supposedly someone had their name on it. He didn't return texts from shop owner so it was mine next morning. I am very pleased with it. Worked sear carefully with file and stone last night and it is very good with very little overtravel, zero grittiness and very clean break. It will enter my carry rotation.

Thanks for the info. You answered my question. I was hoping someone would get a hold of one pretty soon and give their assessment of it. None of my local stores have gotten any just yet. I am waiting to actually hold one to see how I like it. However, from what I can tell, it is pretty much just like my .40 Shield...just slightly larger so as to accommodate the larger barrel.

THE GOOD

The Shield 45 is only slightly larger than the Shield 9/40 while being about the same size as the Springfield XDS 45. The slide is actually a bit thinner than the XDS. I think but the grip is a bit longer.

The gun is amazing to shoot. I was very surprised. When Shooting my XDS 45 I know I'm shooting a sub-compact 45. When shooting the Shield 45 I'd almost think I was shooting the Shield 9mm if I didn't know better. Recoil is minimal and very well managed.

Trigger is much improved over the Shield 9/40. Nice reset and light trigger pull - probably along the lines of the performance series triggers.

THE BAD

Sadly, I was only able to put about 90 rounds through the gun this trip. After 50 rounds I started to have almost constant failure to feed issues. At least one or two rounds every magazine.

For the record I was using Remmington FMJ. Nothing special. I've previously fired it out of my Glock 30 and XDS with no problems at all.

After the third FTF I asked the NRA instructor at the range for advice. First thought was that maybe the gun was under lubricated - it did feel dry, even though I put a normal amount of grease on it after the initial cleaning. We oiled it up a bit more but the FTF continued to happen.

Same issue with both mags. It looks like the magazines are sometimes not pushing a new round into the chamber when the spent casing ejects. In all instances the round that failed to feed came out with the mag when it was ejected. Most were partially out of the mag.

My next thought is that it's a spring issue. Either they aren't strong enough for the 45 or they are sometimes catching on something in the magazine. I did notice that for new mags the springs seemed very forgiving. The springs on my Shield 40 were tight as hell when I first got it.

I guess I'll take the magazines apart tonight and see if I see anything odd looking.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

The springs in both my mags are very strong. In fact it is a real task to get the last few rounds in the mag. It almost seems like the springs might be hanging up a bit. I will give time for the springs to set and shoot it more before I proclaim there is a problem.

Something I just noticed...

When I left the range yesterday I fully loaded one of my mags, thinking that maybe the spring just needed to be broken in. While I was taking the rounds out of the mag today all of them came out easily except for one in the middle. I had to apply a significant amount of downward pressure to get the round out of the mag.

Yeah, sounds like a mag/spring issue to me. I actually had a similar problem with my .40, but mine didn't start until long after break-in. It turned out to be that the mag was just really dirty and dry. I took it apart and cleaned it and put a drop of oil where the follower travels. I've not had any issues since. Not likely yours is dirty since it is new, but a drop of oil inside might help.

I think I may have figured it out after taking the slide apart.

There's a little cutout section on the front of the magazines and I think the lip of the follower is getting caught on it. I lubed it up a bit and it seems better. Going to get some fine grain sandpaper and see if I can't smooth things out a bit.

I'm a little confused. The falso reset that was spoken of in the review, doesn't happen in mine at all. I tried again and again to make mine do it and it won't. I will admit that I reworked the sear in mine before I ever shot it though. I did dry fire it before I did the work but was really trying to get a feel for the trigger and wasn't paying attention to the reset. Before the work it had enough overtravel that it tended to pull off point of aim when dry firing. After I worked the sear there is almost no overtravel and it stays on point of aim when dry firing. I can't ask for more than that. The total time for the action job I did was maybe 1 1/2 hours or less. What I did was work 2 areas on the sear, polish the area of the triggerbar that contacts the sear and polish the area of the striker that contacts the sear. This little pad on the striker is covered in an oxide finish of some sort that is somewhat rough textured. When this is carefully polished away and a mirror finish established, the trigger pull is smoother. Polishing the surfaces on the sear very carefully after they are slightly recontoured also helps to smooth things up a bit. I'm very satisfied with mine.

Went for another test run today, ran good, put 150 rounds through it without any problems. I do get "shell shocked" a little faster than the 9mm you know, groups opening up & not shooting as good as you know you can. But here are a couple of groups. Also tested the shorter barrel to see if it had any effect on the 230 hst's shot 4 gals of water & it stopped in the 3rd, I don't think the shorter barrel had a big difference.
