The Shield does not have an accessory rail.
Any light mounts would need to clamp to the trigger guard, like the CT, LaserMax and Laserlyte lasers do.

Based on what's listed in the S&W Shield Accessories PDF I'd say it's planned for laser only and uses the trigger guard along with the front mini-rail as the attachment points. This doesn't mean a light won't become available but I don't think anything already available will fit without a proper rail.

What's this front mini-rail you're refering to? Mine doesn't have such a thing.

Until some one comes out with a unique method aside from duct tape to attach a light, you should keep a flashlight nearby besides if you properly use a light if one were on the end of your gun that makes for a good target, but if it is in your hand well away from your weapon a shot at the light would be a bad guess by a bad guy!
The use of a light is a tactical one to see where the bad guy is and possibly blind them while you take your shot, so you spot and hopefully blind them and neutralize them!

Very good points. This is how I was trained as well and have no desire to put a light on this type of weapon.

Dont need no stinking lights on a Shield. Point and shoot or wait till Crimson comes out with the Laser Gaurd this fall. Lights are meant for the weak hand when needed.

You must have never had to use one. What happens when your weak hand is otherwise occupied or injured?A weapon mounted light is a great tool.

Wow. Wolverine 17 asked if a light will mount on a Shield and it's turned into a mounted-light vs. hand-held light debate LOL.
Wolverine 17, the Shield does not have a rail. There is a flat portion where a rail would normally be, but it is flat. I don't believe the frame is wide enough for a standard rail. Crimson Trace will probably eventually have one of their tac-lights that mount to the trigger guard, like for other makes and models, as others have already mentioned. You will just have to buy two M&Ps. A Shield, of course, and one of the other models with a rail .

My Shield is at S&W for repair but I was referring to the area where a real rail would be. I couldn't think of anything better to call it but it's the bit where the lasers clamp on.

You can go and get the recover rail from recovertactical.com. I have it on my m&p shield plus with the Olight PL-Mini 2…

On other guns this area is called the "dust cover", but "the area in front of the trigger guard where they should have put a rail" works too.

I believe the TLR6 laser/light that fit the original and 2.0 shield will also work on the Plus. It’s only 100 lumens but adequate for self defense distance. The laser could be helpful. If you go the adapter rail and Olight mini 2 route you may find it more difficult to find a holster. I had that experience with my 365 XL.
BTW, are you Shield/2.0/Plus owners using it for carry and HD or do you have something larger? I’ve got the 365 XL and Shield but I’m thinking about something larger for HD. Not sure if I need something larger capacity, size and velocity. I’m thinking in this crazy time an assault from longer distances or with more perpetrators may be more likely than in the past. Or, maybe I just want a new S&W.
