Default M&P40c vs G27

I know this is the S&W forum but I have a question to ask. Other than knowing I like the grip angle of the M&P better, why pick the M&P40c over the Glock 27? I'd like to hear from people who have owned and shot both.

I carry a PM9 now but want something with a little more oomph that is still concealable.

Thanks,
pineappleshooter

Why is going to be a matter of personal preference rather than hard data to suggest one is better than the other. Myself, I would take the M&P over the Glock.

I've been carrying a G27 as a back-up since I bought it in 1999. The G27 was "state-of-the-art" back when they were first introduced during the full-size magazine capacity ban. As the ban was lifted and other manufactures decided that the passing fad of the polymer frame semi auto wasn't going to pass as fast as they dreamed, we've got some good choices out there. I carry a full size M&P 45 as my primary gun, and I do not have any experience with the compact M&Ps other than handling them at gun stores. They aren't that popular in my area, where Glocks still rule law enforcement. The G27 is a rock solid, reliable pistol. Still, it doesn't fit every shooter. I've began to notice that the M&P can be tailored for a wider group of shooters than many of the others. I've not heard that the M&P has any inherent reliability issues, and S&W's warranty repair and turn-around are outstanding. The only complaint I've heard is that the M&P's trigger is worse than a Glock's (although my 45's has been very crisp although a pound heavier). Ultimately, the choice is up to the shooter based on how the gun feels, and how well the gun shoots in the hands of the shooter.

The grip length is the big difference. If you can manage the short grip the G27 is hard to beat. For size it is manageable recoil-wise and small enough to fit on your ankle.

The 40c is a little more ergonomic to shoot and hold although recoil is imo not any better. It will ankle carry but is more noticeable. Not everyone ankle carries but it makes a good size comparison.

So for a bug or concealment alone I prefer the 27, but for general ccw I think they are equal. As an only or primary pistol the 40c.

Anyway, just my thoughts, hope they are helpful.
