I've been carrying a G27 as a back-up since I bought it in 1999. The G27 was "state-of-the-art" back when they were first introduced during the full-size magazine capacity ban. As the ban was lifted and other manufactures decided that the passing fad of the polymer frame semi auto wasn't going to pass as fast as they dreamed, we've got some good choices out there. I carry a full size M&P 45 as my primary gun, and I do not have any experience with the compact M&Ps other than handling them at gun stores. They aren't that popular in my area, where Glocks still rule law enforcement. The G27 is a rock solid, reliable pistol. Still, it doesn't fit every shooter. I've began to notice that the M&P can be tailored for a wider group of shooters than many of the others. I've not heard that the M&P has any inherent reliability issues, and S&W's warranty repair and turn-around are outstanding. The only complaint I've heard is that the M&P's trigger is worse than a Glock's (although my 45's has been very crisp although a pound heavier). Ultimately, the choice is up to the shooter based on how the gun feels, and how well the gun shoots in the hands of the shooter.
