Default M&P 22 first range trip

Took my brand new M&P22 to the range yesterday for the first time. Cleaned all the grease out, and there was plenty of it, and lubed as per the manual prior to heading out. Took with me CCI minimags, CCI stingers, federal bulk pack, and federal target ammo. It ate every single round with no failures of any kind, heck I didnt even get the occational dud round that comes with .22lr ammo sometimes. The pistol functioned perfectly, probably fired 800 rounds, I am really impressed with it.

Not a big fan of the sights though, I would like to set it up like my xdm 5.25 with an adjustable rear and fiber optic front but cant seem to find any aftermarkets anywhere.

If you can fire 800 rounds in a single session you are tougher than I am.

Regarding the sights, I believe the sights that fit the 9mm and .40 cal will fit, but the .22 has an aluminum slide where the others have stainless slides, so considerably more care should be taken to fit the sights. You may also have to Loctite them in. Also the rear sight for the M&P22 is adjustible for elevation where what I have seen for the others are not. Midway has a lot of sights for the M&P.

Believe me my thumb is really sore today because of it. I went through a whole box of 325 fed target ammo, a mostly full box of 550 federal bulk, a box and a half of cci minimags, and 1 box of 50 stingers. Then I started shooting my XDM 5.25 9mm.

I had most of the day to devote to shooting and really wanted to put the .22 through its paces, its gonna make a really nice practice gun/plinker and a good shooter for my wife.

I read somewhere here that people were emailing s&w for complaints about the sights, and they mail them the rear with the white dots.

Lately S&W has been telling folks here that the 9mm sights won't work because of the aluminum slide. There are several here who have put the M&P9 rear sight on their M&P22 and claim it works fine. As I said, I would be extra careful fitting them.

Are the sights that bad? Couldn't you carefully put a little dot of white nail polish?

I bought some bright yellow acrylic paint and put one dot in the center of the rear sight. That works so well that, when I do what I'm supposed to do, I can put a shot in a half inch spot at 7 yards. In fact I did that about twenty times earlier today.

I tried putting two dots on but the way the sight is made it didn't work as well. Having a center dot is surprisingly easy to aim.

Try it. With an acrylic paint you can remove it with fingernail polish remover if you don't like it.

I like the bar-dot sights on my Kahr CW-9. I'd like to add those to the M&P pistol I decide on.

HI-VIZ pain in the butt to fit had to file the front underside
to clear the slide and the width of the dovetails a bit. TIGHT
fit but the result is good other than the gun still shoots a lil high.
but I didnt buy a target gun its just a practice for cheap
of the mechanics of shootin.
