Trade my Full Size M&P 9mm for a Shild?
I Bought the fullsize M&P 9mm but now I am wanting to get my CCW and am wanting a smaller gun.. Im looking into the shild as an option. Do you think it would be a good trade? I would really like to try one before I buy it.. I'll have to see if any one I know has one.. wish I had the money for both..

Do you mean trade the FS toward the cost of the Shield?
If that's what you mean, I think it's a bad idea. You would be better off to sell the FS outright. You'll get almost twice as much to sell it as you will to trade it in. That goes for any gun. An LGS is there to make a profit, so they won't give you book value for any trade.
I have a FS .40 that I put APEX upgrades & Trijicon night sights on, and I had an LGS offer me only $289. The sights cost half that amount, and were VERY new (maybe 100 rounds - maybe) when I got that offer.
All that aside, if you try out a Shield and you like it better than your FS, by all means, go for it.

I mean trade for trade, as in a swap, not through a LGS but through local ads.

If you can find somebody willing to trade even, if you like the Shield better, why not?

Trevor, if my experience is helpful to you, here's what I did:
I had bought a used M&P 45 (4.25" barrel) with range kit (LEO turn-in) for around $400 and had enjoyed shooting it for a couple of months. I too decided to get my CCW and started looking at Shields; ordered one, and sold my 45 to the gun shop. I got less than half what I had paid for it, but was excited about getting a Shield 40 so I took the hit.
Got my Shield and my CCW, and have begun carrying. Love the Shield and enjoy taking it to the range to practice. It's a great pistol. One thing I found, though, is that I'm not accurate with it beyond 10 yards or so -- not like I was with the 45. That's fine; for me, the Shield is a self defense, CCW weapon and I am getting good with it in the 3 to 10 yard ranges in point shooting, double-tap, and aimed-fire practicing.
Found that I missed shooting the 45 at up to 25 yards, so I had a chance to buy a gently used M&P 40 (4.25" barrel) with range kit for around $400, so I jumped on it. Same ammo as my Shield, and I'll enjoy having both at the range.
My suggestion would be, if you can afford to, hold on to your 9mm M&P full size and match it with a 9mm Shield. It was a stretch for me to do the same with the two 40 cal. M&Ps, but now I feel I have everything I need for self defense and fun at the range.
If you want to PM me, I can give you the name of my LGS, which has had good luck getting Shields and sells for $399.

You will regret selling any gun unless it is defective.
Shoot it, save up your pennies and buy the Shield!

eventually you will want both.
That 3" gun is hard to shoot accurately past 10 yds, it has taken me 1000's of rounds to be 1/2 way accurate with my XDsc. That is fine for strictly SD.
I got involved in club level competition, for fun, and for practice, and I was tired of just shooting the same target at the indoor range. I could care less about how fast I am, or if I win...not the point with me. I like the fellowship, and I like to move and shoot different scenarios.
I shoot my M&P fs 9 in IDPA, and now, new to me, IPSC.....but it can be carried for SD also.
Get both......and get them in the same caliber.

You do know that you can conceal the M&P FS?. Plus you would be going way down in round count. (18 rounds vs. 8 rounds.) I doubt you could find a ftf trade for a shield. Just get a good holster and wear your shirt tail out.
I would keep the gun you have and save the pennies for a Shield later. Perhaps after the presidential election they will be cheaper.

I would be hard pressed to trade a full size for a shield.I want a shield and will have one but I won't pay the gouging that is going on when I see one around here.I will wait it out and they will be available eventually.

EDC-ing your FS M&P should not be a problem. There are a plethora of good holsters, both IWB and OWB, to choose from. If you like the FS, don't trade it for a Shield. Just save $100 from each paycheck and you can pick a Shield up in two months. Then you have two 9s to choose from. Problem solved.

I will tell you M&Ps are an addiction, I have 7 now.
I would keep the full size 9mm and save up for the shield. I carry my full size 9mm CCW all the time. My wife carries her M&P compact.

I thought I would get a shield but my compact conceals just fine plus I can use my FS mags.
Keep the FS and get either a compact or shield.

I agree. And why take a beating trading "down" (for lack of a better word). It puts your LGS in a win/win not you. They'll give you way less for what you have, then sell it for way more AND still make more money selling you a new Shield.
Keep what you have and save up for the Shield in the same cal. you have.

By the time you see a shield at your local GS you could probably have saved enough by then.

Buy a solid IWB holster for your full size like a Milt Sparks VM-2 and then save your money for a Shield if that is what you truly want. In the Shield size I much prefer my 3913/6906

A lesson on family budgeting

You mentioned money is the issue why you can't afford both and having a CCW is a priority.
If money is an issue the cost of ammo to shoot the gun you own may also play into the family budget.
If you shoot at least 1000 rounds a year of store ammo I would seriously consider selling your gun you own on your own purchase a Ruger 22 semi auto handgun for Target shooting and set aside the savings in ammo shooting 22 vs 9mm and after the November election when the Shield will be available in the mid to high 300 range and you have set aside every month the ammo savings shooting a 22 vs 9mm at the range than buy the Shield assuming your wife agrees with your plan.
Trust me if you are disciplined this budget exercise will bless your family in more ways than you can imagine and you still get to enjoy the range at a reduced cost for ammo and you will own a very reliable 9 mm CCW if you are patient.
