I just got back from the range with my 9mm shield. All shots from 7 yards with 115gr.

This isn't the first time, but I can see an improvement over the last range session. Just thought I'd share.

First target is first box of 50 second target second box of 50.

A couple of the "off rounds" happened because a few hot brass pieces came back and landed on my bare arm as I was pulling the trigger. Indoor range with dividers so it must have ejected and bounced back at me.

Also, I did have one that failed to fire. I dropped the mag and ejected the round and the rounds primer had been struck. So I put it back in the magazine and it fired fine the second time. This is the second time for this to happen in approximately 300 rounds. The last time I was using blazer ammo this time it was something different. I'm wondering, do you think it could just be the ammo or should I have the gun checked out?

If you're using it for ccw/sd get it checked ASAP, and do not carry in the interum. Anything less than 100% function in a self defense gun is unacceptable.

Thanks man I attribute that to anticipating the shot. It is better than last trip so if I can improve each time that's pretty good.

I'd say ammo related. Ammo doesn't seem to be what it used to be. Still,something to keep an eye on.

300 rounds fired with 2 primer strikes that did not fire does not give any thought of the gun being at fault as it did what it is designed to do... therefore it must be the ammo.

If that is going to be your carry weapon, practice with the ammo you will carry with. Don't depend on cheap ammo. You get what you pay for and life depends on it!

I mean I understand you practice with the gun you carry but the ammo? Who goes to the range and fires 100-300 rounds of carry ammo? I carry gold dots and it's roughly $26 for 20 rounds.

I ran a few mags of my carry ammo through when i first got it to make sure it fed through ok, but practice with it?

The range I go to makes you buy your ammo there. They don't have "cheap" ammo meaning bottom shelf stuff. They have several kinds they give you like Speer lawman, PMC, etc.

I mean I guess it could be the ammo but 2 failure to fire in 300 rounds? I've read through the forum here and a lot of guys are talking hundreds and hundreds if not over 1000 with no issues.

I'm thinking if it was a gun problem, wouldn't it be 20, 30 or more out of 300?
I mean, the striker moves forwards and hits the primer to fire. What in the gun would cause it not to hit the primer hard enough once or twice and then thd next 200 rounds no problem? I'm sitting here now talking myself out of believing its the gun. Is that wrong? The more I'm typing and thinking the more it seems to me it's thd ammo. However, it was 2 different brands but it's not like I'm talking every few rounds it didn't fire.

I've read and appreciate those that have given their opinion. How about anyone else?

If it were the pistol, you'd most likely have WAY more than 2 FTF in 300 rounds. You mentioned using Blazer brand, never wrote whether it was Blazer Brass, or Blazer Aluminum. There is a difference between the two. I don't know though, whether they use different primers in the two.

S&W has a great warranty so send it back. You need piece of mind and that is why I traded my Nano for a Shield.

The Nano was flawless with 124 grain but FTE 1 in 100 115 grain.

The 1% FTE rate played on my mind so I dumped it after the trip back to Beretta didn't improve the very small but nagging failure rate.

Steak, it really comes down to what you are willing to accept.

Many on the Beretta forum accepted failure if it was range ammo but if you are a perfectionist like me you need to send the gun back otherwise the few failures will play on your mind.

I had 3 ftfs in the first 200 rds with wwb. Now I'm close to 1500 rds. N no issues since. Unreliable gun? I think not. I say shoot it some more.

Ive shot 2100 rounds through mine and have yet to have had a problem(knock on wood!!). My carry ammo is Gold Dot and my range ammo varies from winchester white box, american eagle, magtech, remington and federal being my number go to choice as its pretty cheap at wally world(21.something for the 100rd box). I have shot all these with zero problems. Ammo that i would like to try but wont becuase im too scared to is wolf and Tulammo.

Fired over 1000 rounds in my shield at this point with no issues what so ever. I would believe the issue would be the ammo. All ammo is not created equally, LOL. Some of the cheaper mfg. ammo out there have uneven primers. So pick up a couple boxes of better known made ammo. I would try to match the practice ammo grains with your self defense ammo. If you have misfires with other brands of ammo, send the gun in for a look. good luck.
