Shield Wish List
Now that the Shield has been out for 2 whole months, how about a wish list of stuff for S&W. I will start.
- .22LR version or conversion slide
- Ultra Compact, chop off 1/2 inch off the grip and slide
- Extended mags that will hold 10+ for IDPA
- Safety options, extended or delete
- Textured trigger
What is on yours?

My wish is for the GUN to be more readily available. They have done something right though. They made it well and people are loving it. It is just hard that so many people are loving it. But that's a good thing, it is. Just hard.

I wouldn't mind an extended thumb safety just like on the larger M&Ps. Considering the whole thing is just bent metal on both, I'm surprised they don't already exist.

-.22lr version or conversion slide would be cool. I was thinking of that recently.
- 380
- 357sig conversion kit for M&P Shield in a .40S&W
- 45ACP single stack would be nice to compete with the XDs 45acp
-extended mags would be nice in all of those mentioned
- night sights like Mepros or Trijicon ( Although the SA37s seems to fit for the Trijicon catagory and I think the new HDs too). I'm actually putting a set of SA37s on mine tonite.
- I like the design of the safety on the Shield, so that I wouldn't change.

Ambi magazine release. Not because I am a lefty, but because I have such small hands I have a really hard time releasing the mag with my thumb. I use my middle finger to release the mag if there is a mag release on that side of the gun. Just easier for me. I switched the release on my 9c to the right side. I wish they would have done the same for the Shield.

My wish is for somebody local to get one in stock. I have a list of about 12 places I call at least 3 times a week. I'm on the waiting list at 3 other places.

I like having the safety, & I agree the extended thumb safety would be a nice option.

Me too. I'd love to have an extended safety lever like the other M&Ps.

1. Safety disable kit that also fills gap.
2. Pinky extension for 7rd mag (just 1/2 inch more).
3. Ameriglo I-dot sights
4. Threaded barrel .22 conversion upper.

+1 on this!
Oh and considering the Shields typical role as an EDC weapon, I think S&W should have offered it with night sights from the factory...

+1 for Night sights like Mepros or Trijicon
.22 conversion would be cool, but it's not a deal breaker.
That's all, love it just the way it is.

I've never read a post like this in my life.
1. If you want a .22LR go buy one, there's only a few hindred models to choose from.
2. If you want 1/2" chopped off the grip then buy a Ruger LCP or LC9
3. ???????????
Have you ever held a shield? It's most definitely not a competition gun.
The Shield was designed for CC and it meets all the requirements I've got for that purpose, in fact, nothing else out there does what it does.
The are NO CHANGES needed.

Well there is always a first time
-Yes, i have several .22s
-I do not like the Ruger LC triggers
-I have one and do shoot the Shield at IDPA matches and it does great!
I am glad you like it just the way it is. I put in an Apex kit and it made the trigger much nicer than stock. Looking forward to the Talon Grips in the mail. And maybe some night sights down the road too.
Thanks for taking the time to post your _____ comments.

Maybe a coating so it glows in the dark.
A small blade that flips out of the grip because sometimes you need a knife and don't have one.
I'm sure they could fit a small compass in it also. I mean you will have the Shield with you always, what if you get lost?
Adjustable back straps for the perfect grip.
They could make it available in polished stainless, camo, two-tone, flat black etc.
A full line of barrels and slides, so you can shoot .22, .25, .32, .38, 9mm, .357, .40, .41mag, .45, .457 casull, .50, 30MM incendiary rounds, even rifle ammo like the popular .243 .308 7mm etc.
How about a grenade launcher attachment like the M-16's have? It shouldn't be so hard to mount up the M203 to a Shield.
As small as cell phones are, you might incorporate one right into the Shield, just keep your finger off the trigger when answering a call.
I could think of all kinds of things that would make the Shield a little better. S&W really needs to step up to the plate if they expect to sell any of these things.....

I owned a Kahr CM9 and Beretta Nano and they both were about 1/2 inch shorter in length and height and neither were as reliable as the Shield.
If you go too small the tolerances are too tight and you end up with an ammo sensitive gun and if you get careless with your grip you will have a failure.
I also found with the sights closer together you must hold the aim more steady over a longer gun.
I vote the Shield is just right and my medium hands can grip 1/2 the thickness of my pinkie on the flush magazine.
I have no need to carry or own another CCW. The Shield is my only CCW in my pocket.

I am sorry to say that I disagree with every suggestion on this list, as well as others proposed in various replies, such as the person who suggested a "ghost ring sight."
To me, all of the suggestions in the original post and many of the others, such as the ghost ring sight, take a very good pocket carry pistol and attempt to turn it into something it is not and was never intended to be.

I think this threads, and others like it, just go to show that we all have different preferences. Personally, I think the Shield is the best small pistol I have ever had, and I totally satisfied with it as is.
As mentioned earlier, I wish the magazines were readily available, and about $20 apiece...or less.

Probably would have to be an after market item otherwise S&W couldn't market it using the less than 1" thick asset.

there are accessories that are coming to the stores. talked to a gun dealer the other day that they can`t get any shields, let alone the mags. and holsters. but the co. have them listed, but not on the market yet. an extended 12 rd. extra carry mag. would be nice. meggar might get smart and make them.

Maybe this is fodder for a new thread, but since we're on the subject of wish-list items for the Shield, here's one:
I wish S&W would come up with something that would fit inside the back of the grip, in that little space you can see from the bottom when the 6-round magazine is in the pistol. I guess putting the tool in there for moving the "yellow sear deactivation lever" during field-stripping, like the Shield's bigger brothers have, wasn't feasible. But on a subcompact, you'd think every inch of available space would be used, right?
My suggestion would be that, at the factory, at the end of the production line, someone would insert a small slip of rolled-up paper with the secret S&W code on it, telling where we could find magazines for that model.
I have a 40, and I think this would be a great addition to a gun that I'm already (almost) completely happy with.
