Default First holster recommendation (M&P 9c w/thumb)

This is my first post so I would first like to say “hello” to everyone.

I am new to guns and just bought a M&P 9c w/thumb safety , after going through a headache with a Glock 19 gen4 (first gun) this summer. Put 150 flawless rounds through the 9c yesterday and I could not be happier with it.

Currently I am looking for my first holster, which will be a IWB, backpack or behind my car seat holster and I wanted some recommendations. Doing some research online I came upon the Galco Triton holster which seems to be a perfect mix of durability/price/material/size. I read some post purchase feedback reviews which state that this holster does not work well with a thumb safety model.

This is more of a recreational pistol, so a large holster like a “supertuck” is not what I am looking for currently.

Any advice would be appreciated

Saying you need a IWB holster but later saying this is a recreational pistol are sorta contradicting.either your going to carry your pistol everyday for SD or your not and your going to just use it for HD and range time.

This.

If you want IWB buy a King Tuck or the Crossbreed that it is based on.

If you want a range holster, pick up some kydex from Bladetech or TroTac or Raven or one if those manufacturers. You could also get a blackhawk serpa. I'm always scared I'm going to draw wrong and get my finger in the trigger too soon but they do make a model without the lock on it.

You need to check your English and then re-read what I posted. I believe it was stated as "more of", meaning it would occasionally be carried.

I was not aware there were rules of how I am suppose to carry a gun that I purchased. Obviously they make slimmer IWB holsters that could fill both niche's, hence why I was asking for any recommendations.

My apologies for misunderstanding your post.I understand where you say this is more of a recreational pistol, but what if you really become fond of carrying it.Maybe you may want to look a a holster that will give you the best of both worlds so that you don't have to buy more than one holster.

I'm a big fan of the Rocketman Lowrider, it's hard to beat for ease of putting on before you get out of your car/truck.

Most IWB holsters suck for OWB use. They're generally designed to use your belt and pants for support and tension.
Trust me, I have tried with a few different holsters. If your primary use will be OWB buy a good OWB holster first. Then figure out what you want for an IWB holster and buy one.

For my M&P 9c I have a king tuck I use for IWB as it is primarily for CC.
I've tried it OWB but it flops about more than I like.

I use a cheap Uncle Mike's for OWB at the range. I'll be buying a nice kydex rig from trotac when they start production again in October.
