Default M&P 22 Front sight adjustment

I just picked up the M&P 22 and took it to the range yesterday and the grouping was in the centered but to to the left, looking at the front sight I see the front sight looks off center. How do you get the front sight centered since it is adjustable with the set screw? Is there a suggested method to center the sight with the barrel, I would think that is where it should be, not centered on the slide. The slide is not the same precision machining as the M&P 9 Pro so the slide does have a small amount of side to side play but at the selling price I don't expect it to be like the Pro, I would like it to have it shot reasonable well for training and practice purposes.

Default 22 M & P

To move a group by moving the front sight on a gun, you move the front sight in the opposite direction that you want to bullets to hit. You should loosen the set screw and move the front sight with a piece of brass so that you don't scratch the blue. Rest the bbl on a piece of wood, before striking the sight! Hope this helps you.

Default M&P 22 Front Sight

The front sight on my M&P 22 moves quite easily after loosening the set screw. If you have to drift punch it---I have found that a small piece of hardwood--like OAK---and a hammer work quite well----put the barrel in a padded vice and tap it in the right direction----the wood will prevent any damage.

Thank you for the feedback. Follow up question, how would you suggest getting the sight to a starting point? Would my idea of centering it on the barrel be correct and from there adjust at the range? I don't own bore sight.

You know about how far and what way your gun shoots.. Go by that if your rear sight looks centered.. I would mark with a lead pencil on each side of the front sight. this way you can see just how far you have moved the sight.. Mine move freely after I loosed the set screw.. Move the sight in opposite direction you want the gun to print.. George
