Wife Wants A Glock!?
Went the the range yesterday with the wife and the M&P 40c. She didn't like the recoil of the 40. No surprise there I knew she preferred 9mm. In fact my plan was that she would want a M&P 9 so she wouldn't have to shoot my 40c. Of course I would play with too . But someone had a Glock 26 at the range and before she even shot it she said she liked the feel of it over the M&P. WHAT!? I never heard anyone say that before. Even if they prefer the Glock its usually for the trigger or name. Not for the ergonomics.

Just get your pants on and tell her "no!"
Then you get your bed stuff ready for sleeping on the couch for a while

The real kick is she shoots lefty! The Glock isn't fully ambidextrous.

Not really the same but here is my story.
I have two Wilson Combat Govt size 1911’s.
Wife shoots them well.
She prefers her Glock however. She likes guns, but is NOT a gun nut like me. She likes her guns simple, and to work.
She has been to Thunder Ranch twice with me, and we both shot Glock 22’s (40’s), both times. My wife is small but strong. Her only problem was loading mags. I loaded mags, while she taped targets. At the time my service issue weapon was a Glock 22.
I’ve since retired from LE, and sold all my 40’s, and have gone 9MM and 45 acp. For a number of reasons.
Can’t beat a G19 in my book. The AK47 of pistols.
I’d only buy M&P over Glock if I bought the M&P with the frame mounted safety.
Clint Smith commented on it being a good idea that we were both shooting and training with identical weapons. Sage advice.
I don’t know where that leaves you?
Just my experience.

I also wanted a Glock 40 at first. But because of the preformed ridges on the hand grip and the placement of my fingers, this pistol felt ackward. When I readjusted my hand grip to fit the guns hand grip the overall feeling was unsat and my shooting was off. Then I tried the S&W M&P 40 and it felt like a match made in heaven! Most likely your hands are larger than your wifes are so try changing out the backstraps from your size to the next smaller size and then just maybe she will feel better about the S&W. Good luck and may the best gun (S&W M&P) win.

Doesn't really leave me anywhere. I like Glock. Its about the only none american handgun I'd buy. I find Beretta ok but not good enough for my dough. I'm think full size Glock in 9mm of M&P 9 for her right now. Her choice. All I ask is that she shares . I think full size will be better for her to practice with. Plus she doesn't have a CHL yet, and even when she does, she works on Fort Hood so she pretty much wont be carrying Mon - Fri. I think a full size in M&P or Glock is concealable enough to fit in her purse when she so choses to carry. Then her next can be a compact. Any thoughts?

I agree with Florida J Frame. Get her what she wants. I will tell you, the thought of a Glock inside a purse scares the **** out of me. Glocks need a holster covering the trigger or you're asking for an AD.
Another reason I still keep my Glocks is the "Glock Sport Shooting Foundation" matches. I really wish Smith and Wesson would set up something similar.

At least she has chosen a great weapon, she could have picked much much worse that is for sure. Get her what she wants and sign both of you up for more classes!

Rockin' out with her GLOCK out!!
Congrat to her for her choice of an outstanding weapon! My wife also carries a GLOCK 26 and has a GLOCK 19 beside her bed. My daughter like the G19 best of all our handguns. I own seven GLOCKs and as a lefty, the ergos are perfect for me and it is as lefty friendly as I have found.
Again, congrats!!! Now, go buy some 9mm ammo and take her shooting!

Im a lefty and carry a Glock. Not hard to use it. Muddle finger for mag release (i find that easier then most left handed mag releases) and slingshoot the slide.
Get her what she likes and shoots best not what you think she should like.

You wouldn't carry or shoot a weapon you weren't comfortable with, why should she. Get her the Glock.

(I think full size will be better for her to practice with.)
she wants a 26 and looks like you want a 19.
get her the 26 and pick up the 19 mag and sleeve and have both.
good luck

My wife and daughter both shoot/carry Glock 19s. They love them and shoot them well. The thing is the gun is for your wife, not you. If she feels comfortable with a Glock and can shoot it, then let have a Glock. Actually, to tell the truth, a Glock 17 or 19 feels good in my hand and I can shoot them reasonably well. Glock 9mm have proven to be reliable, simple and durable. To each his own.

Just to be clear I'm happy to buy her a Glock, and while I love my M&P she will have to keep a eye on it. I like Glocks too, and will certainly sneak away with it for play time. My 40c will be my favorite for the forceable future, but Glocks are always welcome in my house. I just thought it was funny. Especially the ergonomics part.

I checked a Springfield XDm 9mm 3.8 compact, a Glock 19 and a M&P 9c. The XDm had a good trigger but ****** grip, the Glock felt good in my hand but had a ****** trigger and the M&P9c had the best of both. These are just my opinions.
If she likes the Glock that's groovy, just make sure she tries the trigger.

If she wants a Glock buy her a Glock. At least she wants a gun and not a Vuitton bag. I don’t think Glocks are one of the seven wonders but the G19 is a very good reliable shooting brick, it never fails to shoot whatever you put inside of it and always is ready to shoot at any time on any condition. Comparing my 9mm I give it a third place after the M&P in second, giving the first place to my CZ-75B.

If my wife got a Glock the only problem I'd have would be keeping my busy fingers out of it. With all the aftermarket parts and accessories available I'd have a hard time not modifying the living daylights out of it. It's best to leave a carry gun factory.

My Wife's favorite center fire handgun is our O.D. green Glock 19 gen 3. She's tried our Shield, & Taurus 24/7 9c (1st gen) and likes the 19 the best. Who am I to argue? She shoots it fairly well too! I hope to get a M&P 9c at some point & we'll see how she likes it. I'd see if the wife likes the 19, in a 3rd gen. They're a good gun, & mags are cheap.

Find someone with a M&P9C for her to try out, or get a 9mm barrel for your .40.
I bet she will like the M&P with less recoil.

Absolutely get her what she likes and can operate. For my wife it was the easy to rack PX4.
Traded my G17 for a PPQ. Got tired of brass being ejected straight to the face.

So far I've not heard too much good about the gen 4 Glock's. That's why I'd find a good gen 3.

I tried selling my wife on a different gun for her first ccw, but once she held and shot the 19, she was sold. Her biggest reasons were the simplicity of point and shoot and the way it felt in her hand. So I got her the 19C that she wanted and now she dead on accurate with it and loves it. I like my S and W's, but I like my Glocks too and I am in no way brand loyal, because most manufacturers make something I like. Buy her what she wants....not what you want. Let her shoot it and love the hobby with you.
Its awesome having a significant other that is into guns.

I normally shoot Glock 34's. The wife finds them to be a little nose heavy in her hands. The solution? A gen 3 Glock 17. I installed a set of Mepro night sights and an extended slide release lever. She is happy and shoots it fairly well. I am happy knowing that she can grab any pistol out of the safe and they all operate the same way. Win, win for everyone.

She picks the Glock, you talk her into the m&p, she finds something she doesn't like about the m&p (and she will), she never lets you hear the end of it every time you take her shooting, you get sick of hearing about it so you take her shooting less, she doesn't like you shooting all of the time without her, she starts paying attention to how much your spending on ammo and guns, she starts trying to cut off your shooting funds while spending just as much money on something girly just to show you, you end up shooting less with a house full of purses and shoes.
I can see it now. Buy her the Glock.

Get her what she want's and she is more likely to carry it and practice with it. And whatever she gets do get a good purse/pocket book designed for concealed carry if she will not carry it on her body in a holster. Have you ever seen the amount of sh...tuff a woman carries in her handbag? You don't want to chance an AD when she goes fishing for her car keys, can opener, cell phone, toaster, ... well you get the picture.

On the serious side, and this is the teacher in me saying this, it could be that your wife is either knowingly or unknowingly expressing her independence. It's most commonly seen in teenagers (which is why I happen to know something about it- being a high school teacher) or people that are new to something but know enough to pick their own path, but everyone does it eventually.
What I mean is I'm guessing she's been relying on you for information and the shooting experience. You hand her a 40c and she doesn't like it so you "plan to get her an M&P9"- in your words. I'm not saying good/bad/whatever, I'm saying that she'll eventually stray from your plan for her just to be in some sort of control over the situation and pick something herself. Which is no surprise that she gravitated to something else that happened to be at the range that day. It just happened to be a *gasp* Glock! Then it's hers and she feels some responsibility for the matter, some possession, and some ownership. It's a good thing. Her Glock instead of a shared M&P9 (even though it was bought with her in mind).
And I also have a PPQ. Ohhhh.... me likey. But then again I also found the mag release to be to my liking which not everyone does. I can work it without shifting my grip. You may want to show her one of those.

My wife wanted a Glock 19 she got one against my judgement. After shooting it about 400 rounds she decided she should have listened to me and now shoots a M&P fs 9mm.She used my 4"686 with 38 special ammo in it for her ccw class and did excellent with it.Now its a toss up which one she likes best her M&P or the 686.My wife is on the small side standing 5' tall and weighing 100 lbs.

Fat B's comment about expressing independence could be right on.
I've had my Gen2 G19 for 23 Yrs now and she shot it very well when she shot it. When she took her class, the Instructor was such a Glock Fan Boy, that it turned her off to my G19 and went with an XD9 Service as her 1st pistol. 6 Yrs later, she now carries a G26 on her hip in a Comp-Tac Minotaur. She would never carry it (or ANY pistol) in her purse. Off-Body carry is not a good idea.
If the OP's Wife likes Glocks, shoots them well and enjoys shooting them, let her get what she likes and what she'll look forward to shooting. A gun you like to shoot and WILL shoot is better than any gun that just sits around like a paper weight.
