Shield Lube?

Slip 2000 EWL is probably the best lube on the market. At least for me. :-)

all mine get hoppes # 9 after cleaning and a few drops of slip 2000 on the rails. nothing excessive...

I use Frog Lube in my 9mm Shield, all my Glocks, Rem 870, patrol carry LE6920 and both mine and my fiancee's issued P226Rs.

Have had no problems and they run like champs...

Thanks

I appreciate the feedback folks. It took a while for me to get back here. I took a new job as of 1/7 and I've haven't been in the Internet mode when I get home at night very often.

I'm pretty much sticking with CLP and Mobil 1. I clean the bore with Hoppes #9. The Mobile 1 sits where I put it until I assemble the slide. I wipe it down with CLP.

BTW - I'm loving the Shield .40 a lot. Nice shooting little pistol, and sooooo easy to carry. I put 115 rounds through it a couple of weeks ago with no issues.

I use Hornedy One Shot, I recently switched to Frog Lube, not sure I like it yet. Stuff weeped out all over the pistol on the inside and collected more powder residue than the One shot ever did. One Shot lubed the gun well, coated the parts with Teflon, and dried to almost nothing. The powder never stuck to the pistol, Frog Lube made mine more dirty. I have not given up on the Frog Lube, I retreated the gun with it and paid more attention to removeing the residue. But the One Shot worked great at lubeing, and cleaning. I only used a drop of Hoppes gun oil on each rail on the slide, and a drop on the striker block. Pistols show little to almost no wear. And their is almost no buildup in them after a couple hundred rounds. I shot 500 rounds through my Shield before its first cleaning, and could have gone many more, it was dirty but never malfuctioned once. I really do like the dry lubes.

X2 for Mobil 1 synthetic bearing grease for my Shield, Colt and Sig slides. I first thought I'd mind the red color but when I used it for the first time but I found out that I could really tell if I had a complete butter job or missed a spot. Six or eight bucks at your local auto supply gets you a lot more than a lifetime supply.

This afternoon I took down my Shield 40 and cleaned/lubed it for the first time. I haven't shot it yet. I lubed it, as per the instructions, at the 7 recommended spots, using RemOil. I didn't use any rail grease (such as Weapon Shield, or automotive oil). I just used the RemOil as per the book. This didn't seem like a lot of lube, and the RemOil is quite thin.

Question - What do most of you guys use for lube in these pistols? Do you find that the S&W recommendations are adequate? I've been used to Glocks, and I used Mobil 1 15w50 motor oil on them, along with a bit of Weapon Shield grease.

Thanks much.

Ken

So, you drank the "use the motor oil Kool-Aid?" LOL

I'm hoping you don't dunk it like Larry Vickers did on the recent episode on his TV program.

Do you use brake cleaner as a solvent?

The Glock manual also has instructions on application of lube. Oddly enough, it says there are about 7 lube points and it does not recommend motor oil. Why read the Shield manual and follow it, but not the Glock manual? Just curious.

Break Free CLP following a cleaning with Hoppes No 9 works just fine in the Shield (and in the Glock).

:)

FROG LUBE is AMERICAN MADE, non-toxic, smells great &

FROG LUBE actually makes my m&p perform BETTER!!!

7 drops of Remoil. it is thin but you are not lubing an engine and it cleans off without much work. It sure seems like motor oil would get gunky and be harder to clean off than the Remoil.

I read a LOT of these lube threads asI don't have a preferred lube yet. I haven't seen many people, anyone actually, that uses the spray-type lube. Like a silicon or graphite dry spray. Is there any reason?

Froggie Stuff :)

I will sometimes use a bit of Shooters Choice FP-10 as well on my M&P 15-22

Whenever I see these lube threads I think to myself that hardly anyone actually puts their lubes to any real test so almost anything will work.

A real test would be to lube the gun and run 5,000 rounds through it before lubing again.

Or dunk it in water every few rounds to simulate using it in the rain for days on end.

Or maybe drag it through the sand and see if the sand falls off and the lube keeps working.

Or lube it and leave it sit in a wet sweaty basement for 4 years.

I mean seriously, almost anything will be adequate if you take care of your gun. You could use pig's fat if you clean your gun every 100 rounds and re-lube.

That said I don't have a preferred lube. I use what the Army issued way back when, Break Free CLP. I also use a little of the TW-25 grease on the rails just because I like the idea.

I'm waiting for my Frog Lube to show up, only because I like the idea of a dry lube / protectant.

So car oil, axle grease, Crisco, Jheri Curl, sure I bet they all will work to a point. ;)

I prefer ear wax on mine. I just take a q-tip and swish it around in my ear (right ear has the most) and dab a bunch on my Shield. The slide really works smoothly once waxed well! Keeps my shooting cost down.

Okay, I'm kidding-no ear wax. Some interesting lubes here. I just use a few drops of Hoppes oil and I'm good to go.

I thought you were serious! :D

It would work just fine I bet, for hundreds of rounds.

Heck, a guy can shoot the gun dry for hundreds of rounds.

Probably would work, but I think it might have a bit of a funky smell once the pistol got hot. I have enjoyed reading about some of the, well, unique lubes here.

I used to dry fly fish with a guy who used ear wax on his dry flies. He swore by it. I just bought the spray can of mystery spray to help keep my dry fly dry.
