I shot Bullseye for a number of years with my Rugar Mark III Gov't Target. It is a very accurate handgun with absolutely no feed/fire issues. I can run every brand and velocity of ammo through it without issue. The only gripes are that it's quite heavy. And the mag ejector is on the bottom of the grip – not in a traditional location behind the trigger. As a result you need to press and strip the mag out. The mag well is quite small to insert another mag without looking, too.

Recently I found a local range that hosts several rimfire steel challenge and IPSC competitions for rifle and pistol. My questions are, "should I attempt to shoot my Ruger or purchase a M&P22 to shoot these practical pistol competitions?" If it is the Ruger I'll need to find a remedy for the mag ejector and loading issue.

The Ruger Mark III is a target gun while the M&P 22 is designed with more of a service pistol philosophy - two very differently designed firearms.

The M&P 22 might be a nice choice for rimfire steel challenge and possibly some IPSC - but check the categories and what the other guys are shooting.

I have both and love both. The longer sight plain of the mkll along with target sights have an upper hand, but the reloads could slow you down a bit.Are you out for fun or the win.Try it with the ruger then decide. If you do get a mp22 you will love it.

Volquartson makes a extended mag release for the MKII, I thought the MKIII had a standard thumb release?. Either way the Ruger is more along the target pistol line, more on par with the S&W 22A.
