Shield 9 Grips
I've only been to the range twice with my new Shield 9mm and due to my big hands and the small grip I'm having a problem with shooting to the left. After purposely adjusting my grip farther around the front of the grip I have better control but my trigger finger goes deeper into the trigger than I like.
I would like to know if anyone knows of a grip sleeve that would make the Shield grip a bit thicker to allow me a better grip for my larger hands. I've read about the Talons but most of the comments are that they are super thin and help grip but not increase size. Is there anything out there that would do both?

Not sure about a sleeve to make the grip bigger but, I have the Talon grips on my Ruger LC9S. They are thin, but add a lot more grip to the gun. Have you tried shooting it with the 9 round mag in it? It will add a little length to the grip, may make it a little easier for you.

Amazon.com : Hogue Rubber Grip Handall Jr. Small Size Grip Sleeve : Gun Grips : Sports & Outdoors
But put it on upside down - at least that's the most comfortable for me.
And for the people that will ask why buy a thin gun and the make the grip fatter - it doesn't make it that much fatter but does help with control.

I've found that Pachmayr grip sleeves add a small amount of palm swell that may help you. However, I've found applying some to both sides and front and rear with skate board tape keeps the sleeve from moving when firing. I have them on a Ruger LC9s Pro and they're really nice and allow a much improved grip.
G'luck and stay safe.

I have yet to find what works for me (Talons peel off, and Hogue and Pachmayr slip down), but I'm going to try the skateboard tape/Horn's suggestion next.

I am not having a problem with holding the gun or controlling it. With the thin grip I found that my normal grip allows the muzzle to move to the left when the round fires causing the poi to hit left. When I force my grip farther around the front of the grip the extra "pull" on the front of the grip makes it much more stable and does not allow the muzzle to pull left when fired.

The length is not the problem for me, it is the thickness of the grip.

I also went with the Hogue Hand-All Jr. Feels good in the hand. It does slide around after several rounds at the range. I check it every so often. Not a problem. Personally, I think of the Shield as a SD gun, not a target gun. So, I don't want to practice using a specific grip just so I get pretty groups on paper. I need to shoot with whatever natural grip I have. If that means the POI is a bit left, then I will practice aiming bit right. Easy.

I've never been fond of a firearm that I have to "estimate" where to shoot to hit where I want. I don't expect the Shield to make 1 hole groups but it should hit center of the poa within reason. If it doesn't, something needs to change or it needs to find a new home.

I'm 6'2" and wear XL gloves. I currently use Talon rubberized grips and Pearce grip extensions on my 2-8 round mags. I have also used the Pachmayer grip but prefer my current setup much more!

Did you feel that the Talons added any width to the grip? Seems like most people don't think so.

Not trying to be a wise guy here, but S&W makes a thicker grip version - called the M&P Compact. If you're going to get bigger grips you may as well get higher capacity. I too have 2XL hands but I bought my Shield for it's concealability, not bullseye accuracy. Hey, it's huge compared to a NAA micro 22LR.

I looked at the Compact but it just didn't feel right so I went with the Shield. I don't need a lot of thickness and that's why I might try the Talons.
The extra .6" length and over $125 extra price didn't help either.

Keep your grip where it is, but back your trigger finger out so you're pulling straight back. Practice it with dry fire some. Small pistols require technique change.
I think you're essentially twisting the pistol when you pull the way you are.

Does the Shield allow you to exchange backstraps?

Not necessarily wider....but better! That and when I added the Pearce pinky baseplates really improved the grip a lot to me.
I would suggest ordering some Talons, trying them, and if you still want more width, then order the Hogue or Pachmayer slip-on grips and put them over the Talons. That will help keep the slip-on grips in place.
Good Luck!

Actually a new problem would be created. He said he tried the Compact and it didn't feel right to him so he went with the Shield. I am assuming because it felt better in his hands.

That and in my waistband too. That extra length dug into my hip bone.

Tried all different positions on the trigger with no real improvement. In dry fire I am not pulling at all. The problem as I have figured out is the gun is not tight in my hand and the muzzle pulls to the left easily when the shot is fired.
Just holding and not firing the gun in the normal grip I can very easily pull the muzzle to the left with my other hand. When I grip it deeper and wrap my fingers farther around it is much more solid and difficult to pull the muzzle. I made a short video showing what I mean but I don't know how to post it.

The rubber Talon might help since it's "stickier" than the bare grip. I tried that first and it was better but added the Hogue on top of it and love it.

I started with the rubber Talon's and then added the Hogue on top of that and the Hogue has never moved. I also used my wife's unscented hair spray to get the Hogue to slip on easier. So either the stickiness of the Talon or the hair spray must be the key.

If you really want to shoot your Shield well - spend a hundred rounds or so with a Ruger LCP :-)
