I've waited 7 or 8 months for my Shield 9. I have a FS9 and a M&P 22lr , all great guns. I shot the Shield for the first time today and expected it to be good but it was GREAT. The trigger is way better than the others and it is accurate right from the first shot. So, all the hype about this gun is true. Love it!!
I also concur with your findings. A few weeks ago I also received my 9mm Shield here in California which is one of the hardest of the states to find one that is of a normal build vs. the "approved California version" which has yet to be shipped here. Enough of that-I've only put 50 rounds down range so far and did have one hiccup, on the first depleted 7 round mag, the Shield failed to stay open as in out of battery.

Full/normal power ammo? Some range/plinking ammo is a little underpowered. Might also just be initial break-in with brand-new springs. A third possibility, especially with a smallish pistol, is accidentally riding the slide release with one of your thumbs.
